In the nearby area

(A) Mix of old and new buildings : This was once a thriving Victorian shopping street (built in 1831) but many of the original buildings have been demolished in favour of 1960s brick buildings. One of the most impressive buildings is the form Miners' Hall with its green-domed clock tower. The miners' hall is now located at Redhills. At the top of North Road is the bus station and the Methodist Chapel and here you will see the impressive railway viaduct built in 1857.''

All of these attractions can be seen before you begin the walk.
