From the Col du Pigeonnier to the Chemin des Cimes

A lovely walk that takes you from the Club Vosgien de Wissembourg car park to the Chemin des Cimes in Drachenbronn, passing close to the anti-tank ditches and following the path marked by boundary stones bearing the coats of arms of the communes of Climbach and Cleebourg. The only difficulty is crossing the ditch at point (7).

Description of the walk

Club Vosgien car park at Col du Pigeonnier.

(S/E) Take the Disque Rouge trail towards Drachenbronn.

(1) At the fork, go straight ahead on the Disque Rouge path.

(2) Turn left and stay on the Disque Rouge trail. Descend towards the trail coming from Cleebourg and cross it.

(3) At the fork, go straight ahead, follow the Yellow Disc and cross the anti-tank ditch.

(4) At the water treatment plant, turn right and follow the Yellow Disc path for about 400 metres.

(5) Turn right and follow the Chemin des Cimes signposted path, which joins a road.

(6) Turn right onto this road, which will take you to the tower.

(7) Head towards the antenna and turn right onto a small path that goes around it. A little further on, to cross the anti-tank ditch, you will need to go around a turret on the right, then go down a relatively narrow and steep staircase and climb the staircase opposite. Turn left and, 50 m further on, take the path that leads to the Col du Stiefelsberg.

(8) Follow the Chemin des Bornes, marked with a green triangle, straight ahead until the next fork.

(9) Turn right and continue on the path marked with a green triangle until you reach the intersection with theGR® 532.

(10) Turn right onto this path and, a little further on, turn right again onto the path marked with a green triangle to go around the antenna on the right and arrive at the car park (S/E).

Hello everyone!
I just want to say, quite simply, there’s no need to buy that guidebook listing the hundred must-see wonders – the beauty of the places, the colours, the atmosphere, and nature itself can be found everywhere...
For example, you can click on the link to the slideshow below and join us for a few minutes as we explore landscapes that, last Sunday, were almost too much for my camera to handle.
Later on, when we wonder whether we really experienced all of this, only words and photos will be there to help us. Because writing and taking photos is a way of fighting against fading memories; it’s treating yourself to the luxury of being able to forget...
See you soon, take care, and treat yourselves to some lovely slow hikes too.

Superb hike, quiet little paths, visit to the treetop walk where we were lucky enough to enjoy a clear view under the sun.
In short, a hike to recommend... when the weather is fine!

We did this hike on a sunny Sunday and didn't meet many people.
However, we did encounter some difficulties in following the route:
- halfway along the route, you have to pass through a 'restricted' area full of 'danger' signs. It was a military zone (not mentioned in the description), so we weren't sure whether to continue given all the signs prohibiting entry (risk of prosecution and death).
- A 180° hairpin turn to continue the red circle route, which wasn't really indicated at the start of the route, threw us off because we weren't going in the right direction.

It was a shame about the Hinterwald Tower from the point of view of the €15 entrance fee (overpriced) and a measly €2 discount for students/senior citizens.

Otherwise, a very nice walk with beautiful scenery. I recommend it!

A pleasant walk through the woods that takes us to the site of the former Drachenbronn air base, where the treetop walk has been built.
Of particular note are the remains of the Maginot Line, which are particularly impressive.
This hike is not particularly difficult.

A lovely gentle descent through the woods along a narrow path. This is followed by a really easy climb to reach the Chemin des Cîmes. - a beautiful attraction that draws quite a crowd.
Next, the passage through the remains of the Maginot Line is quite intriguing.
The return route, which passes a multitude of boundary markers, is also enjoyable.

A very beautiful hike.
