Description of the walk

Departure: Place des Frères Genets

(S/E) Opposite the post office, pass to the right of the building: you are now on Rue de l'Abreuvoir. Head towards the bridge to cross the Ouanne. When you reach the pond, turn right. Barnacle geese will accompany you, but for their health, please avoid feeding them.

Continue to the D3 road. Cross the road and take the straight path opposite, preceded by a "No Entry" sign. You are on the old Tacot railway line. Cross the Ouanne and continue to the end of the path.

(1)Cross the D950 roadwith caution and continue along the path opposite.
Cross the small Route de Sauilly (D159) and continue along Chemin des Champs de la Route, which ends in a footpath and leads to Avenue Charles de Gaulle.

(2)Cross this roadcarefully to reach the opposite side. This is a pleasant, wooded path. You are now back on the Toucy-Joigny tram line, which runs to the old Toucy-Haut station (signs have been removed).
Go down Rue de la Halte on the left, which joins Rue des Montagnes. Cross over and enter La Glaudonnerie park on the right.

(3) Walk around the building (currently the municipal library). Return to Rue des Montagnes and walk down it. Cross Rue Paul Defrance and continue straight ahead.

(5) After admiring the oldest house in Toucy, on Rue du Marché (the second house on your right as you go down), turn immediately right towards the church. Opposite the church entrance, turn left onto Rue de la Motte and go down it.

(5) At the bottom, turn right until you reach a green space (viewpoint). Take the stairs in front of you.
When you reach Place de la République, take a look at the statue of Pierre Larousse. Continue straight ahead along Rue Colette and head for the car park at Place des Frères Genêt, passing in front of the Tourist Office (S/E).

Notes

There is a picnic shelter by the lake, close to the car park where you started.
Take care when crossing the D965 road towards Auxerre.
Ignore any signposts you may encounter during this walk, as they refer to other marked trails.

Historical alternative:
(5) Turn left onto Rue du Chapitre; on your left, you will see the sign for "La Laveuse", which used to be located here, before reaching Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. At the end of the street stands the town hall.
Walk down Rue Philippe Verger and you will see Galerie 14 on your left.
Continue to Place de la République, where a statue dedicated to Pierre Larousse has been erected. Toucy's famous son has been watching over his hometown for a century. History of Toucy.
Gallery 14.
Statue of Pierre Larousse.
In 1940, on a Saturday morning, market day, Toucy was bombed. There were many casualties and significant destruction. The town was rebuilt and continues to grow in beauty, which would have been appreciated by Pierre Larousse, encyclopaedist, lexicographer and publisher (1817-1875), a native of the town, whose statue stands in the centre of Place de la République.

Visits are available on request at the Tourist Office, "In the footsteps of Pierre Larousse".

Very pleasant for adults and children alike as it is not difficult. The various views towards Toucy Church, located on a hilltop, are superb, and I was enchanted by the Burgundian alleyways leading from the church.

An easy and pleasant family walk almost in the city centre. Best done in summer, in the shade on the Tacot trail.
