Description of the walk

Meet at the starting point, which is located at the Steinbach sports ground car park.
For the entire route, follow the Blue Ring markings

(S/E) Leave the car park and follow the Blue Ring markings until you leave the town of Steinbach. Walk to the crossroads at the Ifiss wayside shrine.

(1) After passing the oratory, take the path on the right (still following the Blue Ring). Walk to the next junction.

(2) Turn right onto the path towards the Rocher du Hirnlestein. At the junction, continue all the way to the left (Blue Ring markings). Then turn right for about 150 m.

(3) When you reach this junction, where three paths meet, take the path on the left following the Blue Ring markings, then immediately turn right onto the path towards the Rocher du Hirnlestein.

(4) The path goes round the rock on the left. A staircase leads to a stunning viewpoint over the Alsace plain, which is even better on a clear day. Continue following the Blue Ring markings to the path leading to the Col de l’Amselkopf. (5) At the junction, turn left and walk to the Col de l’Amselkopf.

(6) Then take the path on the right and continue until you reach a sign for “Chapelle Sainte-Thérèse” on the right.

(7) Take the path on the right and walk down the hillside to the Erzenbach River below, and Silberthal (former mine entrance on the right).

(8) Continue by crossing the footbridge (the Blue Ring markings reappear on the other bank), then take the track on the right (on your right, the site of the old medieval mine).

(9) Continue along the Blue Ring marked trail to return to the car park at the Steinbach sports ground. (S/E)

A walk through mostly shaded countryside, with some magnificent views, accompanied only by the sounds of nature (birds, flowing water)

The signposts are very easy to follow. A lovely walk with a gentle climb through countryside and woodland, taking in the magnificent rocky site—now equipped for climbing—where the ascent becomes steeper before reaching the pass. The descent follows a pleasant path down to the old mines, which is straightforward in dry weather. The distance and walking time are as stated. Thank you!
