(S) Departure from Quai du Mail in Meung-sur-Loire, near the bridge, opposite the outdoor swimming pool. Take the path parallel to the Loire, running alongside the rows of trees.
(1) Join Quai Jeanne d'Arc, which is an extension of the D 218, at the Relais Louis XI (New World district). Initially tarmac to serve the few houses, it gives way to a path on the hillside of the Loire. Ignore the various turnings on the left.
(2) Pass the cellars, continuing to follow the Loire.
(3) Pass in front of the wine press. Stay on the path, keeping as close as possible to the river in a north-easterly direction. You will reach the first houses of the village of Saint-Ay and come to a lake.
(4) Go around it either on the right or left to reach the hillside of the Loire.
(5) Walk along the wide lane, pass the campsite until you reach a fork.
(6) Take a hairpin turn to the left, then immediately to the right to take a path parallel to the Loire. At the intersection with a cross path, turn right to reach the Loire hillside and continue to another fork.
(7) Turn left at the hairpin bend, then immediately right onto the lane parallel to the Loire, which leads back to the hillside.
(8) The hillside path is blocked by landslides. You will need to bypass the damaged section by joining the Orléans road on the left and following it to the right for 250 metres.
(9) Turn right to rejoin the Loire and continue along the hillside path until you reach a fork.
(10) Turn right downhill. Continue along the towpath, which turns left further on.
(11) Turn right at the first crossroads to reach the hillside and continue to a fork.
(12) Leave the lane, which curves around, and take the path on the embankment that runs along the hillside. Leave the embankment when you approach a mountain bike trail.
(13) Turn right then left onto the lane between the wall and the forest. Pass the church of La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin.
(14) Continue along the banks of the Loire, cross the Île de Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin nature reserve before passing successively under three bridges: the A71 bridge, the Pont de l'Europe bridge and the Pont Maréchal Joffre bridge, finally reaching the Quai Cypierre in Orléans to the north of the Pont Royal bridge (E).
