From Place de Jaude to the summit of Puy de Dôme, in a circular route and at a leisurely pace

In the Clermont-Ferrand metropolitan area, the Transport à la Demande (TAD) service, in addition to regular bus and tram lines, allows you to travel quite far around the city. This seven-stage itinerary takes advantage of this. Each stage begins and ends at a bus or TAD stop. In between, the routes allow you to discover the villages of the metropolitan area's green belt and the foot of the Puy de Dôme: the built heritage of their old wine-growing or mountain villages, their spa resorts, their natural environments and a few geological curiosities. The first stages follow the course of the Artière, and the last ones follow the course of the Tiretaine, two pretty little rivers, tributaries of the Allier, which originate at the foot of the puys.
See "Practical information" for a 4-stage variant with accommodation.

Notes

All stages of this trip are easy or medium difficulty, some a little more difficult due to steeper slopes, but no particular difficulty otherwise.
I recommend the Visorando app.

To get to the start of each stage and return to Clermont Jaude at the end, use the Clermont-Ferrand T2C buses and the Moovicité Transport on Demand (TAD) service. The relevant lines and stops are indicated in the "Practical information" section for each stage.
Please note! From stage 3 onwards, you will need to use the Moovicité Transport on Demand service, so remember to book your journey!
The TAD minibuses are accessible with a valid T2C urban network ticket. They are free on Saturdays but please note that they do not run on Sundays.

For experienced hikers, it is possible to complete the route without returning to Clermont. However, as there is no accommodation available in some villages, you will need to complete more than one stage per day. Here is a suggested 4-stage route "From Place de Jaude to the summit of Puy de Dôme, a circular route without stopping":

Stage 1: Place de Jaude - Beaumont to (12) (10 km), then Beaumont - Ceyrat from (1) (8 km) then Ceyrat - Saint-Genès to (1) (800 m), for a total of almost 19 km, elevation gain 523 m, elevation loss 325 m, difficulty: moderate to fairly difficult
In Ceyrat, at Le Chanset campsite, shortly after (1) on the Ceyrat - Saint-Genès stage, the path passes behind the campsite, at a gate reserved for residents. Follow the path that branches off to the left and runs alongside the campsite on the right-hand side to find the main entrance.

Stage 2: Ceyrat - Saint-Genès from the campsite, shortly after (1) (13 km) then Saint-Genès - Laschamps (10.5 km) then Laschamps - Orcines to (1) (500 m) for a total of 24 km, elevation gain 1000 m, elevation loss 590 m, difficulty: difficult
In Laschamps, Archipel Volcans lodge, at the start of the Laschamps - Orcines stage, just before (1).

Stage 3: Laschamps - Orcines from (1) (13 km), then Orcines - Royat to (5) (Fontanas), then to the lodge (4.6 km) for a total of 19.6 km, elevation gain 560 m, elevation loss 750 m, difficulty: moderate to fairly difficult
At Fontanas Côté Tiretaine, at (5) on the Orcines stage - Royat, follow the route to visit the village then, back on the Route des Dômes, turn left until you reach the Côté Tiretaine crêperie, which also offers guest rooms in its Côté Puy de Dôme section, about 50 metres from the junction with the D68.

Stage 4: Orcines - Royat from (5) + journey to the lodge (5.5 km) then Royat - Place de Jaude (13 km) for a total of 18.5 km, elevation gain 360 m, elevation loss 760 m, difficulty: moderate to fairly difficult
