Park at Croix Renard in Olne.
The walk follows the green rectangle markings (no. 8) throughout.
Before setting off on your journey, enjoy the 360° view: to the north, the Hazard coal tip; to the west, the Bol d'Air antennas of Sart-Tilman and to the east, the source of the Fagnes.
(S/E) Take the path that descends next to the glass bubbles: it will take you along the Saint-Hadelin cemetery.
(1) At the crossroads, go straight up towards Le Fief. At the top, on the small square, look to your right to see the Ancion house, which dates from the late 18th century. Turn left towards the chapel. Let yourself be carried away by the legend of the tree with nails that will cure all your ills. On the right, take the stairs. They will lead you to the Neuville district in the Magne valley. A few potales adorn the facades of some of the houses. At the bottom of the steps, turn left. Cross the Magne.
(2) Turn left again. (A 100-metre detour to the right allows you to see the water wheel of an old mill that was once driven by the Magne).
Cross the hamlet. The path narrows and becomes pedestrian-only. This path runs alongside one last house and leads you to the foot of the Bois des Jonquilles. You will need to climb the slope to reach the forest path. Be careful: follow the markings closely.
At the top of the woods, find the ladder nestled in the hedge and climb over. Cross the meadow for 200 metres, keeping to your left. On your right, you will see the Bay-Bonnet quarry. At the end of the meadow, continue along the path for another 300 metres.
(3) Turn right between two fences and join the carriage road. Turn left and head up towards the village of Forêt. If you feel like it, a detour to the square in Forêt and its church, beautifully decorated with 16th-century frescoes, could enchant you.
(4) However, your basic route takes you left between two houses before you reach the square. You will then join Route de Forêt. Turn left. After 50 metres, turn right at the cross. Head towards Gelivaux across the fields: at the first footbridge, pass between the two fences. Enjoy the view. At the end of the meadows, you will find yourself on a farm track that takes you to the right. This will bring you to the tarmac road.
(5) If you feel like it, 300 metres to the right, the hamlet of Gelivaux and its dry stone wall will delight you. But the walk invites you to turn left and head back towards your starting point, the Croix Renard (S/E).
