From Crécy-la-Chapelle station to Meaux station via Bouleurs and Boutigny

An original route from south to north, more rural than wooded, passing through interesting villages. The zigzag route makes it easy to shorten for those intimidated by the distance: we recommend cutting from point to point, which allows you to visit all the villages along the route, reducing the distance to less than 20 km. Only the aqueduct section would then be left out.
The start and finish are accessible by bus from the Chessy-Marne-la-Vallée RER-TGV station, or by train.

Description of the walk

Departure from Crécy-la-Chapelle station, which is accessible by train (Transilien line P, Paris-Est sector) or by bus (line 17 Express, from the RER A / TGV station at Chessy-Marne-la-Vallée).

(S) Leave the station and walk along the car park, turn right (Rue de Bouleurs), then turn left before the roundabout into the lane that follows a canal.

(1) When the canal turns right, go left before a bridge. Ignore the roundabout on the left, cross the small car park and follow the road to the crossroads (traffic lights). Cross the large avenue, then turn left onto Rue de Baulnes, where you will soon see the bottom of a long flight of steps.

(2) Climb the 290 steps. At the top, continue along a narrow street to the crossroads at the end of Rue de Chantrennes. Continue left, ignore three streets on the right and reach the fourth, Rue Charles Dullin.

Red and whiteGR®® markings

(3) Turn left, facing this street, onto a small tarmac road which quickly becomes a dirt track, then turns back into tarmac when you reach the village.

(4) Take the first alley on the right, Rue Marie Bréant, then right again and immediately left after the last house. Follow a path between fences on the left and crops on the right.

(5) When you reach a cross street, turn left and at the next intersection, keep right onto Rue de l'Église. Continue to a monumental wash house with its back to the street and walk around it to appreciate it fully. Continue up the street to a crossroads just before the town hall (access to the church by continuing straight ahead).

(6) Then turn left onto Rue de Vignot and continue to No. 14.

No signposts

Immediately afterwards, follow the grassy path on the right and walk alongside a riding centre. Just after the small cemetery, turn left and continue to a T-junction.

Red and whiteGR®® markings

(7) Turn right onto the path that curves to the right and walk alongside a wood on your left. Reach a road (D33) and follow it to the left until you reach the first path on the right.

(8) Take this path and, at the fork, bear left. Continue straight ahead, heading north, until you reach a road (D87) and follow it to the left.

(9) Take the bridge over the motorway and continue left at the crossroads. Cross a small bridge (Ru du Mesnil) and take the first path on the right.

YellowPR®® markings

(10) Follow it (leaving theGR®®) and stay on the marked path, heading east-north-east then north-east. You will come to a crossroads in the village of Magny Saint-Loup (chapel on the left).

(12) Continue straight ahead and after about 100 metres, opposite No. 11, take the first path on the right (leaving the markings behind for a moment). You will arrive at a beautiful wash house. Climb up the embankment and take a small road on the left.

(12) You will come out onto the D33. First turn left then right to take a good, stable path between a stone wall and fields (you will rejoin the marked path). Further on, the path bends to the left to join a small road.

(13) Follow this road to the right. At the crossroads, turn right and cross the D228. Take care: traffic is fast and fairly frequent, and there is no protected crossing. Continue along the path opposite, which descends to the underground aqueduct of La Dhuys, easily identifiable thanks to the masonry manholes that line it.

(14) Turn right and walk along the aqueduct's embankment, which winds mainly through wooded areas. You will reach the village of Chermont.

(15) Cross the street and continue opposite with the underground aqueduct. Further on, cross the road (D228) and continue opposite until you reach the intersection shortly afterwards.

(16) Continue straight ahead (east), cross a small road further on and continue straight ahead. Ignore the first alley on the right and take the second alley on the right (leaving the underground aqueduct) and go to the church of Boutigny. Walk as close as possible to the church on your left.

No markings

(17) Immediately descend to the left onto Ruelle des Clos, which quickly turns into a path. Cross the embankment of the underground aqueduct and walk alongside the cemetery. You will come out onto a small road; follow it to the left for about 30 metres.

YellowPR®® markings

(18) When the street turns right, continue straight ahead on the path. Descend steadily and, at the crossroads (elevation 89), go straight ahead. Cross a stream and then walk along it on your left.

(19) Ignore a path on the left and continue straight ahead, climbing slightly until you reach the next crossroads.

(20) Turn left downhill, cross the stream via a footbridge and climb up opposite.

(21) At the small road, continue left uphill. At the T-junction at the end of Rue du Petit Val, turn right then take the first left (Rue Raymond Marchand) and continue straight ahead to the end of Rue Raymond Marchand, opposite no. 34. Continue right for about 100 metres.

(22) At the left-hand bend in the road, take the lane opposite which goes straight down into the valley. Cross a stream and climb up opposite.

Red and whiteGR®® + yellowPR®® markings

When you reach the end of Sente de la Petite Arche, turn right, then take the first right and continue to the church.

(23) Continue left onto Rue de la Lampe, join another road, follow it to the left and walk alongside the cemetery. At the crossroads at the corner of the cemetery, go down to the right onto Rue de la Marne.

(24) At the bottom of the descent, when the road turns right, turn left onto Chemin Bas and walk alongside the Marne for a short distance. Continue straight ahead until you find the start of a path on the right a few metres after No. 203.

(25) Turn right to stay as close as possible to the river, rejoin the road further on and follow it to the right. At the traffic lights, turn right and cross the Canal de Chalifert at the Meaux lock.

(26) On the other side, turn right. Stay as close as possible to the canal and then the Marne. Then turn left and follow the Canal de Cornillon. Return to the main road and follow it to the right to cross the bridge over the canal.

(27) On the other side, turn right (Rue des Fusiliers). Before the bridge over the Marne, turn left and follow the river on your right. Pass under the Pont Neuf and then, further on, go up Quai Sadi Carnot.

(28) Cross the Marne via the Pont du Marché bridge and, at the end of the bridge, turn left onto Quai Victor Hugo. At the next bridge, continue straight ahead, walk alongside the bus station and you will soon reach Meaux station (E).

From 24 to 25, follow the Marne river along the GR 1 and 15 trails. When you reach 25, take a small path on the left: this path is completely impassable as it is overgrown with vegetation. The nettles on your calves will remain a bad memory!
Otherwise, it's a beautiful, very rural hike.
We had a very pleasant picnic on the steps of La Chapelle Saint Loup.
Kind regards.

Sorry for not advising you to bring a machete or a scythe
In my defence, the path was clear when I walked it. The weather this spring must have contributed to this surge in vegetation on this section of the GR, which is clearly not well maintained.

A pleasant hike with a few sections along roads and varied scenery.
However, at point 26, to climb the embankment towards the road along the Cornillon canal, we had to fight our way through nettles as tall as a man and brambles even taller. A machete would have been more useful. The GR is well marked on this 15-metre stretch, however.
