From Dwejra to Xlendi via the coastal path

Dwejra is an enchanting place with its inland sea, blue hole, tower and bay. It is the ideal starting point for a hike along Gozo's rugged coastline, at the top of vertiginous cliffs. The trail passes historical points of interest and absolutely magnificent landscapes before reaching the typical village of Xlendi.
A regular bus service runs from the starting point and a second service connects the finish to Victoria.

Description of the walk

Dwejra car park - Terminus of bus route 31.

(S) From the car park, after enjoying the Inland Sea, the Blue Hole and the remains of the Azure Window, return to the road leading to Victoria. After a little over a hundred metres, a path appears on the right-hand side of the road. It becomes a track that leads to Dwejra Tower. Continue along the path that goes around the tower and heads towards Dwejra Bay.

(1) Stay on the path that goes around the bay and heads towards the high cliffs. This is the Gozo coastal path, marked by purple dots on the stones. It is also dotted with cairns to help you find your way. Continue along the path that runs along the cliffs until you reach a headland.

(2) Ras-Il-Wardija. Go around the archaeological site, which houses a Punic sanctuary, and follow the path that continues along the shore.

(3) When the trail turns into a path, leave the coastal trail and continue on the footpath that continues along the cliffs. It passes between private plots, which should be respected. The trail is well marked and winds through arid landscapes dotted with huts. It crosses a wadi to reach a field, which you go around on the right. It ends on a rocky plateau facing Xlendi. Follow the purple dots that lead to a staircase down to the harbour.

Head towards the town centre to reach the car park: terminus of bus lines 306 and 330 (S/E).

I tried this hike last week. The start was easy, but it soon became impossible to find "the" way: there were no markings, no clear path, I was forced to zigzag through a kind of heath, and as I was alone, I ended up turning back rather than get lost or risk injury (I didn't meet anyone in 2 hours of wandering)...
On the other hand, from Dwerja to almost the top of the cliff, it was superb.

Superb hike over impressive cliffs. The start at Dewjra and the finish at Xlendi are sublime.
A short, steep and slippery descent if wet halfway down. Follow the red marks on the rocky slabs to reach the stairs leading down to Xlendi.
