From Conflans-Jarny (station) to the Metz conurbation (Lorry-lès-Metz)

The second part of the stage from Conflans-Jarny station is a route along small country roads back to Metz. The grounds of Moncel Castle near Jarny are an ideal spot for a break. From the Montvaux Valley, which we pass through, it is easy to reach the southern part of the Metz conurbation.

Description of the route

(S) From the station, walk up Avenue Jean Jaurès and continue along its extension past the D603 until you reach the next junction.

(1) Turn left onto the cycle path on Rue Émile Zola. At the end, turn left in front of the Lycée Jean Zay and, 100 metres further on, turn right onto Rue Charles Péguy, and follow it to the end.

(2) Carry on to the left along Rue Bossuet until you reach the roundabout. Continue to the right onto Avenue Wilson (D952) for 200 metres, then turn right onto Rue Neuve, then left onto Rue Gabriel Péri. Continue to the junction at the corner of the École Pablo Picasso

(3) Turn left, then at the roundabout, carry on straight ahead onto Rue de Bruville. Cross the level crossing, then the D952, and head along the path opposite.

(4) Walk alongside the woodland of the Parc du Domaine de Moncel and reach the fork in the path after crossing the stream.

(5) Head left up towards the Saint-Étienne farm along the path which joins a road (D13). Follow it to the left, enter Doncourt and you’ll soon reach a junction.

(6) Take Rue Georges Dubois to the left for 200 metres, then turn right onto Rue Adrien Mangin (D13). Leave the village and carry on straight ahead until you reach the crossroads after passing the level crossing.

(7) Turn right onto the D13E, pass through Jouaville and cross the railway line, then turn right onto the small road with a 3.5-tonne weight limit (except for buses). At the next junction, keep right (D13C). Turn right again, pass through Anoux-la-Grange and continue to the church at Vernéville.

(8) Follow the Grand’ Rue and turn left in front of Bagneux Castle onto Rue de la Chantreine. Cross the main road with care and head for the farm-inn in the hamlet of Chantereine.

(9) Carry on along the road, noting the German war memorials, and reach the equestrian farm in the next hamlet, Leipzig.

(10) Turn left onto the small road leading towards the radio masts, then carry on straight ahead and descend via a hairpin bend into the Montvaux valley.

(11) Cross the D643, walk past the tennis courts on your right and cross the stream via the small bridge. Turn right onto the path which crosses the Route de Guerre, then climbs steadily up the other side of the slope until you reach a fork in the path, about a hundred metres before the Chapelle du Gros Chêne.

(12) Take the path on the right, follow the edge of the woodland and then continue through the fields until you reach a four-way junction.

(13) Turn left, cross two wooded areas and reach a fork after walking about a hundred metres into the third one.

(14) Leave the Chemin des Lorrains, turn left into the woods and head straight on to the Place de l’Atre in Lorry-lès-Metz (E).
