(S/E) Opposite the Town Hall and its belfry, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, head down the small street on the right. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead. On the right is the Binche Town Hall (formerly the Hospice Saint-Pierre). Continue along the cobbled street.
At the end of the street, leave Rue du Rempart Saint-Georges on your left and pass between the last house and the Saint-Georges Tower, known as the ‘Witch’s Tower’, to emerge onto Rue Saint-Georges.
(1) Follow the rampart to the right as far as the car park, go round it to reach Rue Saint-Paul in front of you. As you pass, you can admire "Les Caves Bette", the former refuge of the Abbey of Bonne-Espérance, as well as the statue of Pierrot, one of the statues representing the folkloric characters of the Binche Carnival, recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2003. Turn right.
(2) Follow Rue Saint-Paul and walk along the ramparts. You will soon see La Binchoise brasserie on your left, where you can enjoy excellent craft beers. Continue following the fortifications to thesecond tower, then, on your left, go up Rue aux Mourdreux. You are now on a RAVeL route.
Continue along the RAVeL until the junction with Avenue Prince Baudouin, which you take on your right.
Carry on for about 300 m and take Rue Frilée on your right. You’ll notice a viewpoint overlooking the town.
Carry on straight ahead and stay on the main road. From here, you’ll have a view of the Collégiale Saint-Ursmer and the Pont Martine district. Turn right onto Rue du Mont Sarah.
(3) At the bottom, keep left and take the path leading to the old Ma Campagne mill.
Cross a tarmac road, then take the path in front of you. Continue your walk and you’ll come out onto another tarmac road. Go down thethird path opposite until it ends, leading onto another street.
Turn left, cross the tarmac road and continue for approximately 100 m.
(4) Take the path on your right. You’ll pass by Saint-Rémy Church. When you reach the stream, continue along the right-hand side until you reach the N90 (Route de Mons). On your right, walk up this road for 75 metres and cross with care.
Between houses numbered 233 and 231, take the path that leads to the Gallo-Roman Museum in Waudrez, which you can visit during opening hours.
(5) Turn right and follow the old Roman road uphill. At the crossroads, turn right. A sign suggests taking a short detour to the Ferme de la Princesse, renowned for its foie gras and other duck specialities. Then take thefirst street on the left and climb Mont de la Justice.
(6) At the top, on your left, you’ll discover a magnificent view of the region: the wind turbines at Estinnes, the lifts at Strepy-Thieu, etc. Continue your route to the right and, opposite the entrance to the cemetery, you’ll notice the Chapel of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows. Head down Rue du Four à Chaux to the right and reach Place du Centenaire, which you go round to the right.
At the crossroads, head down to the right and follow the ramparts to the N90 main road.
(7) Cross the road carefully (pied-de-biche less than 10 m away) to take Rue des Boulevards.
You will notice the statue of the Drummer, another figure from the Binche Carnival. Walk along the ramparts again, then head up the hill on the left, along Rue Saint-Jacques. At the end of this street, you will arrive back at your starting point on the Grand-Place (S/E).
