From Benet to Chevigné

Set off along the rural paths on the land between the estates of the châteaux of Serrant and Chevigné. Starting from the Benet Fountain to the east of the village, you will walk past farms with evocative names (Chèvre Pendue, Beauchêne) to reach the Chevigné Pond, a vast body of water that is home to many rare and even endangered bird species and is classified as a Sensitive Natural Area.

Description of the walk

Car park near the cemetery.

(S/E) From the back of the car park, turn right towards the Benet Fountain.

(1) Retrace your steps and take the path on the right under the road tunnel. Here you will find the Allée Noire. Take this path, which leads to Serrant Castle.

(2) This alley is open during the château's opening hours. Follow the D961 and then take the Route de Chevigné on the left. Walk along the grounds of the Château de Serrant.

(3) At a place called Chèvre Pendue, continue straight ahead.

(4) Continue straight ahead, walk alongside the Bois de Tremblaye, then turn right onto Rue des Grands Ducs. After 120 metres, turn right onto Impasse des Bergeronettes. At a place called Les Galivais, take the footbridge and continue straight ahead along the field on your left. Continue straight ahead through the next two fields.

(5) At the end of the fields, at the crossroads of the circular route, take the track opposite, then the path on the left, following the green markings.

(6) Cross the hamlet of Lesnaies. At the crossroads, take the road on the left. Pass Roche Blanche and Le Ronceray. You will arrive at the edge of the Étang de Chevigné lake.

(7) At the road junction, take the road on the right and walk along the lake. At the next crossroads, head left towards Saint-Jean-de-Linières. Pass La Herse and immediately afterwards, take the path on the left near the lake at its start.

(8) Continue straight ahead on the path to cross the Bois du Ricochet.

(9) At the end of the path, take the path immediately on the left. At the intersection, take the track on the left, following the green markings. At the foot of the water tower, take the road on the left.

(10) Pass Crépelleux, Bourdigal and La Pulinais. At the following crossroads, continue straight ahead on the path. At Beauchêne, continue on the left. Leave the entrance to Château de Chevigné on your left (private property) and continue straight ahead on the path to return to the crossroads of the circular route.

(5) Turn right. At the next intersection, take the track on the right.

(11) Pass La Galerie and Le Petit Nombreuil. At the fork, keep right on the road. You will come to a fork that you passed on the way there.

(4) Take the road on the left in the opposite direction to the outward journey and rejoin a fork that you also passed on the outward journey.

(3) At a place called Chèvre Pendue, keep left on the Route des Landes. At the three-way junction, continue to the right. Pass through Les Landes, then take the path on the right (red markings). At the end of the path, continue straight ahead, crossing the Route de Chevigné. Pass under the bridge to reach the car park (S/E).
