Country lanes and castles from Saint-Georges-sur-Loire

Park on the abbey terraces or along the gardens.

(S/E) From the abbey gardens, head down towards the Étang d'Arrouët lake, taking the road on the right. Walk along the right-hand side of the lake. At the dam, continue straight ahead until you reach the roundabout.

(1) Cross Rue de Chalonnes and continue along the footpath beside the shopping area, first turning right then left.

(2) At the roundabout, cross and turn left towards La Miraudaie. At the exit of La Miraudaie, take the path on the left, which runs alongside the Chalonnes D961 road.

(3) Follow this path, cross the Ruisseau des Galivais stream and arrive at a bend in the path.

(4) Continue straight ahead on the grassy path until you reach the road, Chemin de Brivolant.

(5) Follow it to the right, then turn right again onto the road (D111) to reach the station.

(6) At the crossroads, take the D961 on the right and follow it. Cross carefully to take the first road on the left, towards La Villette/Eculard.

(7) Cross the hamlet and, on leaving Eculard, take the path on the left. Pass under the railway bridge and immediately turn right onto the path running alongside the railway line.

(8) Pass Moulin Bachelot and La Cottillaudière and take the road on the right at the crossroads. Pass through the railway tunnel and take the path immediately on the left.

(9) At the end of the path, take the road on the left and go through the railway tunnel. At the three-way junction, turn right onto Route de la Loge. Pass La Chétarderie and then Château de l'Épinay.

(10) Continue straight ahead on the road and walk alongside the Prieuré de l'Épinay.

(11) Turn onto the track on the left. At the end, take the path on the right and cross the Ruisseau de la Bénaudière stream. Turn right onto the road.

(12) Pass through the railway tunnel and take the first right, then left at the SNCF footbridge.

(13) Take Chemin d'Arthur on the right. At the end of the path, repeat the process to reach Route Tarentaise.

(14) Follow it to the left, then take the first right onto Rue Armoricaine. Pass Dauphin and La Touche.

(15) At the Champ Fleuri three-way junction, take the road on the right, then the one on the left. At the hamlet of La Guimellière, continue left. In the bend, follow the path on the right and cross the Ruisseau de Serrant stream. At the end of the path, take the path on the left and join the D961. Cross it carefully and take the track slightly to the right towards La Miraudaie.

(3) When you reach the crossroads from the outward journey, turn left towards the roundabout.

(2) Take the track on the right, walk alongside the community of communes headquarters and then continue straight ahead on the path in the bend.

(16) At the end of the path, continue straight ahead, then do the same at the intersection and the next crossroads.

(17) Pass La Grande Lande and take the path on the left after the bend. At the end of the path, continue straight ahead, crossing Route de Chevigné by first turning right then left. Pass under the bridge. Walk alongside the cemetery, then take Rue Tubœuf on the left to reach the abbey gardens (S/E).
