Description of the walk

Parking is available after the Mourras farm for two cars only, at the end of the tarmac road. If there is no space, continue south by car towards Boussière to park by the barrier. Please note: do not park in the fields and do not block the field entrances (agricultural machinery access).

(S/E) At the “Mourras” signpost, head up to the right across the meadow, towards Pas du Buis.

(1) Continue straight up the hill to the Pas de la Croix.

(2) Turn left, heading south, following the ridge, and you will reach the relay mast.

(3) Go round it on the left, following the fence. When you reach the site gate, go down the road for about 80 m, then, at the signpost in a left-hand bend, take the path on the right (southwards) to rejoin and follow the ridge. The section through the boxwood and along the cliffs in places requires caution. You will reach the crossroads at Col d'Ourches: signpost.

(4) Continue downhill towards the south to a clearing where there is a hunters’ hut on the left: a shelter, water tank and ideal spot for a break.

(5) Take an unmarked path on the left that descends through the woods. Ignore the paths and tracks branching off to the right or left, and continue downhill along this sometimes stony path. Join the road (D731) at a place called Les Gauthiers.

(6) Take the tarmac road to the left. Pass a roadside picnic area and continue for about 300 m to Les Bourbous (signpost).

(7) Turn left at the hamlet. Then follow the signposted path to the right. Walk past Les Arthauds, keeping the hamlet on your right. Continue uphill, following the signposts, to the Boussière farm. The climb is steep at first but levels off before you reach the farm.

(8) Leave the farm on your left and continue straight on along the marked track, which takes you directly back to the starting point (S/E).

Notes

Much of the route follows the ridge (very little shade).

In the summer months, you may encounter wildlife and therefore mountain dogs. It is best not to bring dogs.

A few sections near the cliffs. Although not vertiginous, the route requires caution between points (2) and (4).

Picnic facilities available at the hut at point (5).

Descent on a stony track between points (5) and (6). Wear sturdy footwear.

No markings between points (5) and (6). Follow the track carefully, which is always downhill.

Worth a visit

Near the Boussière farm (8) you will see Highland cattle. They are very peaceful, but please do not approach them so as not to disturb them, especially if there are calves.
