Departure from the church square in Brézé.
(S/E) Follow the D93 (Rue du Maréchal de Maillé-Brézé) towards Saumur. Pass the Château de Brézé car park.
(1) At the next intersection, turn right. Walk along the castle's surrounding wall and pass in front of its original entrance. Continue along the wall and enjoy the beautiful view of the vineyards. At the T-junction, turn right and climb to the highest point of the area, at the foot of a water tower... powered by a pumping station.
(2) Take the leftmost path, which will take you down to the bottom of the valley. Continue straight ahead (north-east) and ignore all the side paths. Cross the Ru de la Bournée and immediately turn right at the crossroads. Continue until you reach the stream again.
(3) Then turn left before the weir (do not cross the stream). Walk between the fields to the edge of the woods. There, turn right and head south, ignoring any side paths, until you reach the Carrefour de la Sablonnière (6 paths).
(4) Take the second path on the left (south-southeast). Pass under a power line and you will reach the hamlet of L'Étoile.
(5) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead. At the next crossroads, turn right. After about 100 metres, you will come to a road. Follow it to the right to quickly reach the Château de Grand Fond. Continue along the road. At the end, turn left and then immediately right into Rue du Château-Fouquet. Pass in front of the castle (a 15th-century manor house, remodelled in the 16th and 19th centuries).
(6) At the crossroads, take the path on the right. At the next crossroads, turn left. At the next crossroads, at the foot of the chapel of Château de la Ripaille (a 15th-century manor house with a 16th-century dovecote; Chapelle Saint-Sébastien, rebuilt in 1860), turn right. Continue straight ahead (north-west) to the next crossroads.
(7) Then turn left and follow the remains of what was once the enclosure of a vineyard. On the tower at the corner of this enclosure, look for the graffiti depicting winegrowers' tools. You will then find yourself on tarmac, which will lead you to a small grassy area.
(8) Turn right to reach the watchtower forming the north-east corner of the park you walked along at the start. Go down to the left, between the vineyard and the wall (you are now in Ruelle des Carmes). At the bottom, turn right onto Rue du Puits Aubert (take care, this is the busiest street in the village). On your right, the church forecourt will tell you that the walk ends here (S/E).
