Park in the car park on the banks of the Loire, opposite Souzay Town Hall.
(S/E) Cross the Loire, if the ford allows it, to make a small circular loop on the Île de Souzay. Take the path marked "La Ferme du Port" then follow the main path back to the car park.
(S/E) Head left towards the town hall and take the Parcours Troglodytique trail. Join the Chemin des Écoliers.
(1) Turn left onto it, then turn right onto Rue Jean Prévert to reach Rue des Hauts Bouts. Take this street on the left to return further along the D947, which is also Rue des Ducs d'Anjou. Turn right onto this street to reach the Chemin de la Chaumine crossroads.
(2) Turn right onto this path, then left onto Chemin de Bel Air. You will then come to a path at a right angle between the vineyards of Saumur Champigny. Turn right onto this path. Further on, you will reach the junction withthe GR®3marked in red and white. Continue straight ahead on theGR®, turn right after the place called Le Sang de Bœuf and the power line to reach a crossroads with several directions.
(3) Leave theGR® and take the path opposite. Turn left onto the road to reach a crossroads marked by a cross and rejoin the GR® here.
(4) Turn right onto theGR®, cross the hamlet of Les Maligrates and reach a new crossroads.
(5) Leave theGR® again and continue right through the vineyards to reach the Champignonnière sheds.
(6) Continue between the vineyards and you will reach the troglodyte houses near the Château du Hureau.
(7) Return to the troglodyte trail on the right to reach the Pin Parasol. Follow the path on the right, then the one on the left between the walls. Descend towards a troglodyte dwelling that will surprise you. Continue to Rue du Château to reach Château de Souzay.
(8) Follow the La Loire à Vélo and Parcours Troglodytique routes. At the barrel, turn left onto Ruelle des Pêcheurs to reach the car park on the banks of the Loire (S/E).
