Description of the walk

(S/E) From the centre of the village of Haute Faye, turn right (north) onto the D34 and follow it for about 100 metres.

(1) Opposite, take the stony sunken track. Ignore a path branching off to the right and head towards Roudersas.

(2) Before the village, head up to the left along the stony path (view of the pond). Pass at the foot of Puy Pointu.

(3) At the top, follow the sharp bend to the left, ignore a path on the right and head towards a fork.

(4) Turn right onto the path through the woods until you reach a crossroads.

(5) After the broom, head down to the right. Cross a stream, walk past the ruined farm of Jarjavaly and climb the track to the left towards the pylons.

(6) Turn right (panoramic view). After passing the pylons, leave the stony path ahead and head down to the left alongside the tall fir trees. Continue through the woods and emerge onto the D4. 100m further down on the right, in a bend, is the Beaubier fountain.

(7) Turn left onto the tarmac road. Walk alongside the red fruit crops. The road becomes a footpath (remains of a cross on the left). Head towards Le Picq, where there are two small wash houses. Reach a cross.

(8) After the cross, head left up into the woods until you reach a lane. Facing the low wall, turn right until you reach the D34. Cross it, take the Chemin de la Messe opposite and head straight up.

(9) Continue along the lane on the left which descends towards the D34. Cut across the bend via the sunken path and continue straight ahead to rejoin the D34, then turn right to reach the centre of Haute-Faye (S/E).

A very beautiful hike that I was able to do with my family, including my 5-year-old son. We didn't start from the heights of Faye because there was no parking... We started from Roudersas (2 km away), but since this place is located on the loop, it wasn't a problem. There were no particular difficulties on this route, which I recommend for the scenery!

A lovely walk (one of my favourites in the Royère de Vassivière area). And beautiful forests, mainly fir trees.

Fellow motorhome enthusiasts, don’t go to La Haute-Faye – there’s nowhere to park. Head straight to Roudersat (point 2 of the guide) to the first abandoned house, where there’s a small car park right outside the front door. A lovely walk in the woods; a few clearings provide some light and open up the landscape a bit... There may be some spelling mistakes, but Visorando only gives me a tiny box to type in, which is illegible, so I’m typing blindly.

The route is a bit tricky to follow due to the damage caused by forestry work all over the place. The paths are sometimes difficult, and it’s not particularly interesting as there are lots of pine forests… uninteresting forest tracks… the villages are lovely, though… stony paths, hence the difficulty…We would love to see the real Millevaches plateau again, before the foresters’ invasion and its destruction.

A really lovely walk – very varied and therefore very interesting.
The route is marked with yellow signs all the way, so it’s impossible to get lost.
At a fairly brisk pace, though not quite a run, and including photo stops, it only took us 2 hours and 20 minutes.
