Chiry-Ourscamp route and remnants of the First World War

This route provides an insight into what Chiry-Ourscamp endured during the First World War, as it was the first German village on the road to Paris. You will discover numerous war relics and information panels. Not to mention the town's heritage, such as its abbey, castle and chapel.

Description of the walk

Departure from Chiry post office (plaque on the wall). Here you will find information board no. 1.

(S/E) Cross the D1032 carefully (pedestrian crossing and traffic lights) and take Rue Royale on the left towards Noyon to discover information boards 2 and 3. Continue along the path. Off the route on the right, you will find the memorial area.

(1) At the intersection, cross the D1032 (caution: pedestrian crossing) and go up Rue du Maraiquais. Continue straight on to Place des Tilleuls

(2) At the war memorial, turn right and go up Rue du Four (signposted Place du Four). Continue straight ahead and go up Rue de l'Église.

(3) At the church, where you will find information board no. 4 (sign), take Rue du Château on the right.

(4) Pass Château Mennechet (two plaques), where you will find information panel no. 5. Continue straight ahead. At the intersection, take the dirt track straight ahead and continue straight on until you reach the orientation table.

(5) Turn around. At the top of the slope, follow the path that turns right. At the intersection, where information panel no. 8 is located, continue straight ahead, then descend to the left along the path and cross the woods.

(6) At the second orientation table and information board no. 9, continue down the path to Rue du Cimetière. Turn right into Rue du Chêne.

(7) At the intersection, go down Rue de Mauconseil on the left (sign on the lodge). Continue straight ahead to return to Rue Royale. Cross the D1032 with care ( pedestrian crossing and traffic lights) and continue on the left if you want to return to the starting point. Along the way, you can admire the Sainte-Anne Chapel (plaque) and its information board no. 10.

(8) If you want to take the alternative route, continue straight ahead and cross the D1032 with care (pedestrian crossing and traffic lights). Go straight ahead on Rue du Lavoir, then turn right onto Rue des Douze Setiers.

(9) At the end of the street, turn left onto Rue de la Justice and cross the bridge over the D1032.

(10) Cross the bridge over the Canal Latéral de l'Oise and continue straight ahead until you reach Ourscamp Abbey.

(11) When you reach Place Saint-Éloi (plaque on the wall), where you will find information panel no. 11, take Rue de l'Abbaye on the right (plaque on the wall) towards the last information panel and the calvary.

(12) Turn around to return to Rue Royale via the same route.

(8) Turn right and walk past the Sainte-Anne Chapel.

(13) Continue on the left to return to the starting point (S/E).
