French Cemetery and Parc des Générations

Starting from the football pitch, this walk takes you down the steps to Rue du Cimetière des Français, providing access to the cemetery. After your visit, head out again and take the path directly opposite towards the footbridge over the Sambre. The walk follows the towpath to the Parc des Générations before heading back to the football pitch via Rue du Rominet.

Description of the walk

Easy parking at the football pitch

Facing the ground, head towards the high-voltage pylon and take the path through the woods (straight ahead). Turn left as you emerge from the woods, then go down the steps to reach Rue du Cimetière des Français. The entrance to the cemetery is on the left-hand side of the street, just after the small tunnel.

As you leave the cemetery, directly opposite there is a path leading to the footbridge over the Sambre.

After crossing the footbridge, there is a historical plaque indicating the water level reached during the historic flood of 1 February 1961 and a history of the lock.

Follow the towpath to the bridge and continue to the entrance to the Parc des Générations.

On leaving the park, cross the Sambre bridge again and turn left to walk up Rue du Rominet

A short hike in the woods of Ham and Roly, and along the Sambre. You can hike with a dog without any problems and also mountain bike, but perhaps in the other direction as the Bois Roly has quite a steep gradient, which is easier to descend by bike than to climb.

Here is a walk in the hills above the Sambre which begins by crossing the Taravisée plateau, with its wind turbines, strawberry fields, farm and castle, before entering the Grand Bois de Ham and reaching the Sambre via one of its oxbow lakes, before the river was channelled. The return route follows the towpath on the right bank, then climbs through the Bois Roly to return to the starting point.

Starting from Spy Church, overlooking the square of the same name, the route leads to the small village of Onoz through fields, which can be seen at the bottom of a wooded valley along the Orneau. From there, shaded paths follow the banks of the stream and then explore the Bois de la Veuve and Bois du Bètch-aus-Rotches woods, located on the side of the valley. The route inevitably passes by the Spy Man's cave and the museum dedicated to him.

As invigorating as can be in strong winds, this circular walk takes place mainly in the countryside on the agricultural plain between Gembloux, Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, Chastre and Sombreffe, bypassing the Docq crossroads (N29 x N93).In our opinion, it is more interesting on the north side than on the south side.You will discover some beautiful isolated trees, some magnificent rows of trees, a few merry-go-rounds, the strange Donjon de Villeret, the (deconsecrated) Église des Alouettes in the middle of nowhere, the Château d'eau de Sombreffe and a park of modern windmills (= wind turbines).

Departure from the Sports Centre on Rue Célestin Hastir. The route is flat until Fontaine Ste-Gertrude. From km 2.4 to km 3.3, there is a gentle incline. After that, the route descends to the finish line. Beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.
