Drystone shelters, chapel and stream in Saint-Chinian

This route offers beautiful views and allows you to discover the Sentier des Capitelles before reaching the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Nazareth via a Way of the Cross. The return journey follows the GRP®, then unmarked paths in places and a short stretch of road before turning off via the Guitardes plateau, following the Combelongue stream.
We recommend using the Visorando app or a hiking GPS.
Avoid hiking on hunting days or after heavy rain.

Description of the walk

The hike starts from a small car park on the right-hand side of the road from Saint-Chinian to Villespassans (D20).

Yellow PR® marked Yellow

(S/E) Leaving the small car park, walk along the D20 for a few metres and take the discovery trail on the right. Continue to the first fork.

(1) Turn right and join the Chemin de la Guitarde.

(2) Turn left and continue south-west along a circular path that loops around before joining the D177.

(3) Cross the road carefully and begin the climb up the Way of the Cross, which leads to the Chapel of Our Lady of Nazareth.

(4) From the chapel, continue along the access road. At the hairpin bend, continue along a path until you reach a crossroads.

GRP® marked in yellow and red

(5) Continue straight ahead and join a road at the entrance to the hamlet of La Mouleyre.

(6) Turn right up a small, partially concrete road and follow the dirt track that follows this road, veering to the right and offering a view of the hamlet below. You will arrive at a crossroads.

(7) Turn left with the GRP® and continue to another intersection.

No markings

(8) Leave the GRP® markings and take the path on the left that joins the D177.

(9) Turn right then left, cross the road carefully, follow the path which, after a series of right-angle turns, joins an enclosure marked by ropes belonging to a riding centre.

(10) Do not cross the horse pasture, but pass to the left along the vineyard plot in front of you. At the intersection with the D177 coming from Assignan, follow it to the right until you reach the D178E1.

(11) Turn left onto this road with caution and , in the bend, take the path opposite, heading north, until you reach a fork.

(12) Turn right at the hairpin bend and join the Combelongue stream, following the path which widens as it descends.

(13) Leave the path, which has become a track in places, to rejoin the Sentiers des Capitelles on the left.

Yellow PR® marked in yellow

(14) Pass the viewpoint and return to the fork in the path you took on the way there.

(1) Continue straight ahead, then turn right to pass under the mill and find the car park on the right before the D20 (S/E).

Notes

The route is marked in yellow (PR®) in its first section up to the Chapel of Notre-Dame de Nazareth. It continues to point (5) and becomes GRP®. But be careful:

- when you reach the small hamlet of "La Mouleyre", just at the first house on the left called "Cabanon", you should take a partially tarmac road that climbs to the right at point (6). Do not cross this place called "La Mouleyre". The "road" section will turn into a stony path and then a track.

From this point onwards, the route is no longer signposted.
We recommend using the Visorando app or a hiking GPS to follow the trail more easily, particularly at point (10), where you should walk alongside a vineyard on your left, near the horse paddock.
Please also note that you will have to walk along the road twice, where caution is advised.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.
