(S/E) Car park in Bugny, in the centre of the village, next to the church, in front of the school. Visit the Church of the Immaculate Conception (if it is open): beautiful side altarpiece from 1877 (post photos). Set off along the main street opposite the church entrance. White-red markings. On leaving the village, continue straight ahead along Rue de l'Essollette.
(1) At the 90° bend, continue straight ahead towards Ouhans.
(2) At the signpost, when the road starts to climb, continue straight ahead along the small tarmac road, ignoring the signs inviting you to climb into the field on the right. Pass between the farm buildings and continue along the same road until you reach the entrance to the woods.
(3) Then climb up to the right into the bright and airy fir forest via a stony path (the signpost was in rather poor condition when I passed by). The path quickly forks; continue along the uphill path on the right. You will pass a pylon and a hunting car park.
(4) 200 metres further on, at the ONF sign, look for the signpost inviting you to leave the gravel road and climb up to the right into the field. Walk along the edge for about 50 metres and climb up the forest path. Cross another gravel road and continue climbing up the path opposite. You will reach another gravel road and turn left.
(5) Just before the end of the fir forest (200 m), where the path stops climbing, look out for some faded markings on the right. Leave the road and climb up to the right. The path is not very well marked, but you can easily find your way by following the markers. Enter the pasture through a small wooden gate and follow the edge on the right until you reach Mont Pelé.
(6). You will enjoy a 360° view. Then look for a small wooden gate in the fence to cross to the next pasture. Descend diagonally, looking for a stony passage in a hedge of trees below. Cross this new pasture widthwise, looking for a path opposite that climbs into the woods.
(7) When the path begins to descend again, in a small clearing, don't miss the unprotected viewpoint on the right among the rocks (take care) at the top of the Loue valley. The descent takes you through a well-ventilated wood with numerous views of the valley, following the yellow and blue markings. On leaving the wood, the path joins a farm track. Turn right into the pasture, where you will soon see the small tarmac road and the signpost.
(2) Return to the entrance to the village by taking Rue du Tilleul on the left, which will take you back to the car park (S/E).
The route includes cliff-top paths and unsecured viewpoints. The paths are rocky and slippery in places. Sturdy footwear is essential and walking sticks are recommended.
