Description of the walk

In Manglieu, park in the car park opposite the abbey church.

(S/E) The entrance to the Abbey Church of Saint-Sébastien is on the south side. On leaving the building, head straight on along the village’s main street.

(1) At the four-way junction, next to a large house with three mullioned windows on the left, turn into the left-hand street. Follow it as it curves round until you rejoin the main street, to the north of the abbey church. Walk a few metres to the right, then take a path on the left. This path leads towards the Ruisseau l’Ailloux stream. Pass a footbridge on your right, rejoin a tarmac road and continue straight on, keeping to the right until you rejoin the main street.

(1) Turn left onto the main road to return to the abbey church and the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Photo album here
A pretty abbey church, which was open when we visited.
Old houses in the village, one of which is clearly built on the ruins of the abbey (though the owner was reluctant to share any details).
A village built on the banks of the Ruisseau l’Ailloux. There is a picnic area at the south-eastern edge of the village.

It’s a village I know well, as it’s where my great-grandparents lived. I enjoyed walking the route and rediscovered places where I used to play as a child. I also took the opportunity to tidy up my ancestors’ grave in the cemetery, which is in a terrible state.
