Teno Alto circular

A short circular walk on the Teno Alto plateau, inspired by the "Teno Alto Self-Guided Trail" on the website www.tenerifeon.es. We start from the small plaza in the center of the village (plaza de Teno). The route begins on paths through pastures between farms where goats are raised and cheese made. The village is then reached by skirting a volcanic hill with caves.
Beautiful views of the countryside, pastures, the sea, the Isle of Gomora and Teide.
At the end, a final round-trip section with shaded sections offers a view of Punta del Teno.
At the time of the walk (mid-November 2023), the Los Bailadreros bar was open in the village and connected to the square, where we were able to eat and drink. In fact, it's frequented by many hikers on much longer treks.

Description of the walk

Start:On the TF436, at El Palmar, take the small winding road to Teno Alto. There's an arrow pointing the way to the visitor center (Parc Rural del Teno, Los Pedregales). Once in the village, you can park on this street or the adjacent ones.

(S/E) Turn your back on the little chapel and head for the exit of the village, towards the sea.

(1) Turn left and then immediately right to avoid going back up into the village: beautiful dragon trees on the way.

(2) At the crossroads, turn left towards Queseria Naturteno, a goat farm that makes cheese.

(3) Continue along the path until you come to a small hamlet with a free-range farmyard (chickens, roosters, turkeys), fun if you have children (or not).

(4) Return to the junction.

(2) Turn left. At the farmhouse, turn left again. Keep right at the faint crossroads and you'll come to a fine view of the Gomora.

(5) Continue on the path through a farm before rejoining the road.

(6) Turn left down the road to the junction with TF51.

(7) Fork right and climb up, skirting the volcanic hill on the left. You'll come to another fine viewpoint.

(8) Continue along the path to reach the road at a building: this can be used as a parking area.

(9) Turn left to return to the village entrance. Just before the Los Bailaderos bar, take the road on the left (TF-58). Continue until you reach a right-hand bend: ''beautiful view, especially of Punta del Teno.

(10) Return to the village (S/E).

Notes

Start:___On the TF436, at El Palmar, take the small winding road to Teno Alto. There's an arrow pointing the way to the visitor center (Parc Rural del Teno, Los Pedregales). Once in the village, you can park on this street or the adjacent ones.

Parking: You can pass the village to get to point (9).

A walk inspired by site, which includes all the official and maintained trails on the island of Tenerife.

(10) At this point, there is a path which comes from the left at a bend and joins the road. Judging from the map and the fact that there were other hikers emerging from it, I think there must be a path between points (9) and (10) that would allow you to avoid this A/R segment and have a single loop. I haven't had time to try it out.

Worth a visit

The path is very easy to follow and presents no difficulty.
However, there is not much of interest on this short circular.

/We only have the "official" signposted loop in the area, about 3km.
An easy little tour with my daughters, aged 6 and 10, on a windy day that made the experience more original. Lovely views.
Loop completed in 1 hour for 3km.

Nice little walk, far from the tourist routes, a hidden glimpse of the island with the real life of the countryside on Tenerife.
(before tourism arrived in this small rural area).
The only café-restaurant in the village (at the start) is very authentic, and I really enjoyed the local food.

A short nature walk in the parque teno alto, with no real interest other than the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing spot!
