Circular route on the island of Porquerolles

Hiking in Porquerolles at a peaceful pace surrounded by unspoilt nature. Just twenty minutes by boat from Hyères, the island has a rich and fascinating history dating back centuries.

In Porquerolles, you can hike at a moderate pace through shady forests, vineyards and olive groves, wild coastlines and idyllic beaches. It is in this incredible setting that I invite you to discover this little gem of the Îles d'Or.

Description of the walk

(S/E) The walk starts on the quay after the boat has docked. (See practical information on how to get to the Île de Porquerolles).

(1) Leave the port and stop at the information office to pick up a map of the island (useful in case you wish to change the original route). Continue south-east along Rue de l’Artisanat, then turn left into Rue de la Douane.

At the first junction, turn right towards Place d’Armes. Walk past the post office and the church, then turn left onto Chemin Sainte-Agathe just after the “Sainte-Anne” hotel-restaurant. Follow the signs for Fort Saint-Agathe. At the junction between the concrete Chemin Saint-Agathe and the stony path, turn north-west towards the Fort.

(2) After walking around Fort Saint-Agathe, return to the junction and continue south-east towards the mill.

(3) Walk around the Moulin du Bonheur, enjoying the view of the harbour and the mainland. Return to the path and continue south-east. At the crossroads, turn right, heading west along the Chemin des Oliviers, towards Plage d’Argent. Walk alongside the olive groves until you reach the Carrefour des Oliviers, where there is a fire hydrant on the left.

(4) At this junction, turn left and head due south along the Route du Phare. Continue until you reach the lagoon on your right.

(5) Turn left onto the Chemin du Phare, heading south-east.

(6) From the Porquerolles Lighthouse, continue along the road for a hundred metres, then leave the Route du Phare and take a path on the left at the bend towards the Gorges du Loup.
At the junction with the Gorge du Loup track, turn west towards the gorges.

(7) You can descend to the cove, taking every possible precaution, to swim and/or stop for lunch.
Then, turn back to rejoin the ridge path which heads north towards Pointe du Brégançonnet and the Langoustier peninsula.

(8) Walk past the Calanques du Brégançonnet, stopping briefly to admire the view, then continue towards the Langoustier peninsula via the Piste des Eucalyptus.

(9) At the cistern, turn south-west onto the Piste des Langoustiers, a wider track suitable for bikes, to reach the peninsula. Turn right onto the Chemin du Col du Langoustier, walk for about twenty metres, then head north-west until you reach the Chemin de la Pointe Sainte-Anne. Turn left and head towards Fort du Langoustier.

(10) Walk around the fort and continue to Pointe Saint-Anne. Then retrace your steps to rejoin the Chemin de la Pointe Sainte-Anne, then turn north towards Grand Langoustier beach.

Continue north on the Chemin du Langoustier. Pass the Calanque du Maure, then at the hairpin bend, take the path on the left which heads west towards Plage des Maures (you can skip this section by continuing along the wide stony path depending on how much time you have left to catch the boat). Then rejoin the wider path and continue eastwards towards Plage d’Argent.

(11) Take a short break on the beach before heading back along the Chemin du Langoustier eastwards towards the village of Porquerolles.

(12) At the junction with Rue de la Ferme, turn left towards the harbour to reach the jetty (S/E).

Tips: Remember to buy your tickets the day before from the tourist office, which will save you from queuing at the ticket office at the pier.

Breathtaking views, especially in strong winds!!
An easy hike done out of season, so there weren’t many cyclists

A very beautiful hike through lovely Mediterranean forests. Beautiful views. Opportunity to see interesting wildlife (I saw a pheasant on the Langoustier peninsula).

The route passes through paths that are off-limits to bicycles and paths that are not off-limits to bicycles. Be aware of mass tourism during certain periods (meaning lots of bicycles).

Very easy hike, no difficulty whatsoever.
The GPS track is no longer accurate, but you can easily do this hike without it, as the paths are very well marked and signposted. A very pretty route to the Gorge du Loup. After that, there are lots of paths through holm oak forests that block the views, and lots of wide paths that are a little too busy for our liking.

A beautiful hike on the western side of Porquerolles Island.
The route is easy to follow, with signposts indicating the coastal path to take and crosses at regular intervals to indicate the wrong directions
I would also confirm that you need to be well-shod to complete this circular route, given the distance and the few steep sections, which pose no risk to experienced walkers. It goes without saying, but you really do come across all types of walkers. For those who want to shorten the hike, there are plenty of markers that allow you to cut across to the centre of the island and then return to the port
At point 6, we made a detour via the Calanque de l'Indienne (about 1 km more there and back). The view is nice and was recommended to us by the tourist office.
This route is best done when there is no wind as it is very exposed.
Highly recommended.

Quite a technical route, but very enjoyable.
Thanks to the route designer for this wonderful day.
Highly recommended.

Hello Georges and Évelyne, thank you for your comments on the application.

Although your message would have been better placed in a thread unrelated to a specific hike, I would like to point out that what you are suggesting already exists: at the top left, app menu / Settings / Sound alert (third item).

Hello to the entire Visorando team.

Although your smartphone hiking route app is excellent, I would like to suggest a minor improvement that could satisfy many users.
Provide the option to alert hikers if they stray more than "N" metres from the route, for example with an audible signal.
This option should be optional: I can activate it or not.
With "N" being configurable (100, 200 or 500 metres, as desired)
Thank you for your feedback on this matter.
Kind regards
Evelyne and Georges

A beautiful hike that avoids the cycle paths along the coast. You can add a detour by going straight on at the junction after the mill.

Good evening.
Thanks for the info.
I did this hike three weeks ago and didn't have that problem.
I will correct it.
Best regards

Hello
A very beautiful hike on a lovely autumn day with a slight mistral wind. Few hikers at this time of year, picnicking and swimming at the Brégançonnet cove. A small problem with the route, which passes through the private property of Mas du Langoustier; the caretaker asked us to turn back, so we took the marked path to reach the Pointe du Langoustier.
Best regards
G. Regnault
