Lac Blanc - Tête des Faux circular loop

Five routes are marked out in the Lac Blanc 1200 ski resort, offering several levels of difficulty, with distances ranging from 3 to 14 km. This route is a compilation of sections from three of these routes, forming a circular route of approximately 11 km, taking into account the passages closed due to the marking of quiet zones. The route mainly follows forest paths through a forest of tall fir trees. It includes a beautiful but physically demanding climb on a path winding between the trees, a passage near a First World War necropolis, a short descent through the undergrowth, and then an arrival on a stubble field offering a superb view: first of the Alsace plain and the Black Forest in the distance, then of the Lac Blanc glacial cirque. The route continues through the Lac Blanc Adventure Park before returning to the car park.

Description of the walk

Park in the Lac Blanc dyke car park, on the edge of the D48-2.

(S/E) Take the uphill path, with Lac Blanc behind you, called "Route du Balcon du Lac Blanc".

(1) Pass the first path on the right and, at the first fork, take the hairpin bend on the left.

(2) Cross the cross-country ski trail and follow the uphill path marked "la Digue du Lac". Join the cross-country ski route.

(3) Walk about 20 metres to the right, staying close to the side, cross the track and follow the path on the left: "Route du Balcon du Lac Blanc".

(4) Turn right and head towards the Auberge du Blanrupt.

(5) Walk past it, then take thefirst path uphill on the left, marked Anneau Rouge. Turn left after about 50 metres and continue to Chemin des Immerlins, after making a first right turn then a second left turn.

(6) Continue left to Col du Calvaire.

(7) Take the track on the right to cross the car park, go to the end and take a path marked Anneau Jaune on the left, which you follow until the next junction.

(8) Turn left and then immediately right to follow the "Étang du Devin" route, which joins the Chemin des Italiens further on.

(9) Head right and follow it for a long time, cross the GR®532 and continue for about 200 m.

(10) Take the path that climbs to the right towards Tête de Faux: signposted "Tête de Faux" and marked with a red rectangle crossed with white. When we passed through in January 2026, this section was cluttered with branches following forestry work, but this did not prevent us from using it.

(11) Cross a forest track and take the path opposite to reach the junction with the GR®5: signposted Nécropole Nationale 14-18.

(12) Turn right and join it at Carrefour Duchesne.

(13) Take the Chemin des Immerlins on the left: marked with a yellow ring. You will arrive at the Source Rosalie.

(14) Follow the path on the left, marked with a yellow easel, to the next junction: there is a nice spot for a break on the right with a table and benches.

(15) Turn left downhill into the meadow, keeping the forest on your right.

(16) When you reach the forest path, continue to the right for about 20 metres, then turn left to join the GR®531, which you follow to the right for about 200 metres.

(17) Descend to the left, turn left again after about 100 metres and enter the woods, following the path marked "Parc Aventure du Lac Blanc". Make sure you keep going in the same direction at the intersections and you will rejoin the uphill route.

(1) Continue straight ahead to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Follow the snowshoe signposts carefully and stay on the marked snowshoe trails , without straying onto the Nordic ski trails, which are groomed by the resort team. If you use snowshoes on them, they become impassable for skis. However, some sections require you to use them, in which case you should stay as close to the edge of the trails as possible.

(12) Optional return trip to Tête de Faux by turning left.

Hike completed by the Branquignol.e.s (the famous epicurean hikers from Alsace whose motto is to enjoy every step of the way) in January 2026.

Hike done on snowshoes. The trail is still congested at point 10.
Be careful around the blockhouses, as there are many dangerous spikes that are sometimes invisible in the snow.
Otherwise, it's a beautiful route.
