Loop between Croix-de-Chirol and Boulieu-lès-Annonay

This is an easy, short walk on good stony paths. There are beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Tip: best done in mid-May when the broom is in bloom. Be careful, there is little shade, so avoid the hottest times of day.

Description of the walk

Parking is available at Le Mouriol, in a hairpin bend on Place de la Récréation, on the site of a former school that has been demolished.

(S/E) Go up Route de la Colline to the hamlet of Eyvas.

(1) Turn left onto Chemin des Châtaigniers, which is no longer paved at the exit of the hamlet. Follow the road as it climbs gently.

(2) At the junction with a wide road, turn left. Continue uphill, passing a ruined farmhouse, Les Fontilles, and its spring.

(3) At the crossroads, take the path furthest to the right, which is not signposted and climbs to the top of the hill. Cross a forest and arrive at the top among the broom bushes.

(4) Then continue along the stony path that descends steeply. Leave the path that crosses to your right and continue downhill to the edge of a forest.

(5) At the next crossroads, turn right and continue downhill towards Eyvas, returning to the intersection you passed at the start of the walk.

(1) Take the same path back down to the car park (S/E).
