Circular ridge from the Chapelle Notre-Dame du Mont

A lovely little circular on the heights of Gillonnay, starting from the Chapel of Notre-Dame du Mont, with a beautiful view of Parménie and, above all, the Vercors. The chapel is worth a visit. This route is superb in autumn! Be careful, in the height of summer, there is practically no shade.

Description of the walk

Park in the small car park at the Chapelle de Notre-Dame du Mont, which will be your starting point.

(S/E) Start from the car park on Allée de la Chapelle.

(1) At the junction with Rue des Castilles, turn left and follow this street until you reach another junction.

(2) Then turn left onto Montée de la Ratissière and continue for about 100 metres.

(3) Leave the tarmac road and take the path that climbs up to the right until you reach a road.

(4) Turn right onto this road, which quickly turns into a path. Continue for about 3 km on a beautiful, open path along the ridges with superb views of the Pre-Alps and Alps. You will arrive at a PR® near a hunting cabin.

(5) Stay on the right-hand side of this path and continue south-east until you reach a road.

(6) Turn right onto the small road, Chemin de la Montagne, which descends and heads towards the chapel, arriving at a crossroads.

(7) Continue straight ahead on this road, which becomes Chemin des Côtes, and at the next junction, stay at the top and continue straight ahead until you reach a fork.

(8) Keep right at the top of this road, Chemin des Côtes, and you will arrive at the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(2) Continue straight ahead and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the chapel car park (S/E).

Notes

There is a water fountain and toilets at the Chapelle du Mont car park.

La Chapelle du Mont and its immediate surroundings are worth a look, and the view is so beautiful that it's even worth stopping for a picnic. There are also a few picnic tables. The chapel is open occasionally and is interesting to visit.

Worth a visit

The chapel and its surroundings are worth seeing.

Take your time on the ridge path to recognise some of the peaks in the mountains.

Good evening,
After all the rain we've had over the last few days, we wanted to avoid the mud... Mission accomplished!
A very pleasant walk with constant panoramic views stretching from Chartreuse to Vercors via the Alps, and, as a bonus, the Bièvre plain and the Chambarans moraine in the foreground.
No difficulty whatsoever.
Thanks to the author.
