Circular route taking in the castles of Landsberg, Spesbourg and Andlau

A beautiful circular route passing three iconic castles in the Andlau region: the elegant Landsberg Castle, Spesbourg Castle with its 24-metre-high keep, and Andlau Castle with its two towers. The latter two offer superb views over Andlau and the Rhine plain. This shaded route also features some beautiful rock formations: the Rocher Herrade, the Rocher du Jugement, the Rocher du Hungerplatz and the Rocher Sainte-Richarde. You can also visit the summit of the Crax and its blueberries.

A lovely route, but the signposting often led us to take detours and retrace our steps. Stunning views. A lovely surprise at the Hungerplatz inn, where we received a very warm welcome.

A lovely walk, mostly through woodland and therefore in the shade, offering the chance to explore the ruins of three beautiful castles around Andlau. The paths are very pleasant; there are also several lovely views of Andlau and the Rhine plain along the way. We didn’t come across many people on the paths on this August Sunday.

Finally, a sunny Sunday.
I got off to a false start by parking at point twelve, so I ended up doing both castles at the start of the hike, which wasn’t a bad thing, as there were already quite a few people out at 10 o’clock in the morning. Beautiful views, lovely trails, although in places it’s still very muddy – good shoes are recommended.
One slight downside: the summit of Le Crax was a bit of a let-down – just a small clearing in the middle of the forest. I took the opportunity to have a coffee break there, but honestly, it wasn’t worth the round trip.
An easy hike, I’d recommend it.
Thanks
