Circular route taking in the castles of Landsberg, Spesbourg and Andlau

Park near the Tollenloch Forest House, on the D854 heading towards Hohwald.

(S/E) Follow the Red Ring trail. At the junction, continue straight on towards the Muller-Apffel crossroads.

(1) Head straight on towards Landsberg: Blue Disc markings. Cross a path then turn right onto the forest road.

(2) Take the hairpin bend to the left onto the Red Triangle-marked path which climbs towards Rocher Herrade.

(3) At the junction of paths near the rock, continue right along the geological trail (marked with a Blue Triangle) towards Heiligenstein.

(4) At the junction, turn left onto the^GR®5towards Landsberg and cross a track.

(5) Turn right onto the path marked with a Blue Disc, then quickly turn left towards Landsberg. Cross a track and continue on the GR^®.

(6) At the Landsberg crossroads, turn left towards the castle. Follow the path down to the left, which goes round the forest house, and head for the castle ruins.

(7) From Landsberg, head towards Spesbourg Castle via the geological path marked with a Blue Disc. Turn left after the castle, continue straight on at the next fork, then cross a path.

(8) Turn slightly right onto the Sentier des Chameaux marked with a Blue Triangle. Turn right at the next fork, then left a good hundred metres further on. Join a forest track and follow it for about 200 m.

(9) Head down the path marked with a Yellow Triangle to the left. At the junction, go straight on towards the lower crossroads of the Luttenbach Holzplatz.

(10) At the junction, continue straight on towards the Tollenloch Forest House (marked with a Red Ring). Admire the beautiful stand of Douglas firs, then head for the Rocher du Jugement, set slightly apart to the left.

(11) Return to the Luttenbach crossroads.

(10) Follow the Blue Ring-marked path down towards the Holzplatz. Further down, turn right onto a track, cross a stream and turn left immediately. Pass by the Holplatz shelter to reach the car park.

(12) Cross the Route du Hohwald (D854) with care and take the Blue Disc-marked path towards Hungerplatz. Cross the bridge over the Kineck, ignore the paths to the left and right, then turn right and continue along the Blue Disc-marked path.

(13) At Hungerplatz, continue straight ahead and, where the path joins a wide track, take the track on the left down towards Spesbourg Castle: a beautiful view of Andlau and the Rhine plain.

(14) Retrace your steps, then head down the Blue Disc-marked path on the right towards Andlau Castle. At the fork, continue straight ahead and ignore the path on the left.

(15) Turn left towards Château d'Andlau. Turn right onto the track, then immediately turn left onto the path marked with a Blue Cross. Then turn right and head up towards Château d'Andlau. Cross a track and follow the path marked with a Red Saltire up to the château.

(16) Continue along the path marked with a Red Saltire. At the fork, continue towards the Col du Crax and soon turn right. Turn right onto the wider forest track and, shortly afterwards, at the Silberberg junction, turn left onto the path marked with a Blue Triangle towards the Rocher Sainte-Richarde. Climb up the rocky outcrop of the Silberberg on the left and then continue along the path. At the junction, go straight on to Rocher Sainte-Richarde: a beautiful view over Andlau, the plain and the forest.

(17) Return to the junction and turn right onto the Blue Triangle-marked path, heading towards Barr. Ignore a path on the right and reach the Col du Crax.

(18) Take the Red Disc-marked path opposite towards the summit of the Crax. At the fork, head up to the right, and make the most of the opportunity to enjoy some blueberries if they’re in season!

(19) Return to the Col du Crax.

(18) Take the Blue Triangle-marked path on the right.

(20) At the crossroads of the three oaks, continue straight on towards Chapelle Sainte-Anne and, shortly afterwards, turn left. At the T-junction, take the path on the right.

(21) Turn left towards Holzplatz. Cross a path and continue along the trail marked with a Red Rectangle crossed out in white.

(22) Follow the path marked with a Red Ring on the right. Turn left onto the track and head towards the Tollenloch Forest House (S/E).
