Circular walk from Roya to Punta di Cepo via the coastal path

A lovely circular route along the coastal path starting from Roya Beach in Saint-Florent. A smooth ride along the coast on the way out. The return leg follows an inland track with panoramic views of the gulf, Cap Corse, Saint-Florent and the mountain range surrounding the Nebbiu region.

Description of the walk

At the roundabout at the southern entrance to Saint-Florent, take the D81 towards Calvi. After crossing the bridge over the Aliso, turn right onto the Route de la Roya and head for the hamlet of Acqua Dolce. Park at an angle in the designated parking areas.

(S/E) Leave the road and walk along the beach to the left, using the small islets as landmarks.

(1) At the end of Roya beach, take the very narrow coastal path that appears on the right. Pass Punta di i Frati and reach the junction for the Fornali lighthouse.

(2) Turn left, walk a few dozen metres, then find the path marked by a cairn which climbs left into the scrub. Reach the highest point, where a ruined tower stands offering superb views.

(3) Descend via the same path to the junction and continue along the route to the left. Keep further to the left to reach Anse de Fornali

(4) Continue to the right along the coast to the hamlet known as Domaine de Fonaverte: private property.

(5) Continue to the right along the path that runs along the coast and head to the hamlet of Calaverte, opposite Punta di Cepo.

(6) Keep to the right on the seaside path and continue to the next junction.

(7) Take the path on the left which climbs through the scrubland. At the highest point, you’ll reach the Fornali track.

(8) Follow this track, turning right. Continue along the same track until you reach a closed gate blocking the way.

(9) To the right of the gate, local residents have cleared a path for walkers. Take this path and continue along the track until you reach a junction at Anse de Fornali.

(10) Keep to the right and stay on the track until it ends at the junction with the Route de la Roya

(11) Turn left and head towards the beach. Turn right to walk along the beach and return to Acqua Dolce (S/E).
