Punta di Ventilegne circular route

A very beautiful circular route through the Figari countryside, allowing you to visit the abandoned hamlet of A Testa, stroll through peaceful marshes and sneak from beach to beach along the rugged coastline. This is the habitat of Herman's turtles, which in springtime resembles a flower garden overrun with wind-sculpted topiaries.
Beautiful, easy trails, accessible to mountain bikes.

Description of the walk

Coming from Propriano or Figari Porto-Vecchio, take the T40 towards Bonifacio. The path veers right into the scrubland about 900 m after the Bocca di a Testa D859 T40 crossroads. About 2 km from the T40 is car park no. 1, where you can park.
PLEASE NOTE: the road is badly damaged in places and completely inaccessible to low-clearance vehicles. It is much better to have an off-road vehicle such as a 4x4 or SUV. However, it is possible and strongly recommended to leave your vehicle along the T40 or the road, in a location that does not obstruct other users. The start of the trail itself is 1 km from the T40, so you will need to add this distance to the total length of the circular route.

(S/E) Take the road you used to arrive and retrace your steps for about 1 km until you reach a fork in the path on the left, marked by two large stones and wooden posts.

(1) Take this path on the left and follow it as it winds its way up to a plateau where you will find the hamlet of a Testa. Take the time to admire the view of the Gulf of Ventilegne and the various buildings of this ruined hamlet, including the large mansion that dominates it.

(2) Continue to the left and pass in front of an old bourgeois residence whose low openings have been bricked up. Continue along the path that winds through the scrubland dotted with cork oaks. In spring, some passages may be a little damp.
As you get closer to the sea, you will begin to enjoy beautiful views of Figari Bay, the Tower of Caldarello and the small port of Pianotolli-Caldarello. You will reach a small three-way crossroads.

(3) Turn left at a right angle, leaving the path from Saline de Sottane on your right. A few dozen metres further on, you will pass Bruno's Fountain with its small stone bench opposite. Continue through scrubland that is sometimes damp or flooded. Some sections are paved with stones to keep your feet dry in case of flooding.
The path approaches the coastline and Figari Bay.

(4) Follow the path along the coast. Strangely shaped rocks accompany the hike, as well as a succession of beaches and rocky crevices. Continue along the bay to reach a rocky point that juts out further into the sea than the others: Punta di Ventilegne.

(5) Then walk past the three other car parks (in addition to the one at the start), which are invisible from the coast but marked by numerous access paths. Shortly after a small beach with waters that are a little more turquoise than the others, turn left and head back to the car park where your vehicle is parked (S/E).

NB: if your vehicle is parked near the T40, take the main path and return to the road. The distance from car park 1 to the road is 2 km.

Notes

There are no water sources along the route except for a fountain hidden in the scrubland below the hamlet and Bruno's Fountain in the middle of the hike, but the water, if there is any, is not drinkable.
The path is very easy and sandy throughout the circular route. There is no difficulty in following it by mountain bike except for the beach and marsh sections.

Worth a visit

Between (1) and (2) On this section, wind your way through the scrubland among myrtles, holm oaks and cork oaks, mastic trees and oleasters. In spring, a multitude of flowers make for a magical walk among asphodels, broom, lupins, sweet peas, alliums, honeysuckle and more.

Visit the ruined hamlet of a Testa, Bruno's fountain, and enjoy panoramic sea views over the Gulf of Ventilegne, with the Sardinian mountains in the background and Figari Bay. Numerous taffonii (rocks sculpted by the wind) have given their names to various places, such as a testa (the head) and a testa di u gattu (the cat's head).

Shortly afterwards (3) Bruno's fountain: the water is not guaranteed to be drinkable, but you can take the opportunity to rest and enjoy the coolness and tranquillity of the place.

Between (4) and (S/E) Choice of small or large beaches for swimming in season.

Between (5) and (S/E) Walk along the marshy wetlands where you can see egrets, herons and other birds in certain seasons. The croaking of frogs will guide you in the right direction. Continue along small beaches and rocky points, following the coastline, sometimes very close to the water. Some beaches are ideal for relaxing and swimming.

A very pleasant, easy hike with beautiful views and opportunities to swim when it gets too hot. We encountered very few people (in October). The circular hike can be done in either direction, which is nice depending on the sun's position!

A lovely circular route between land and sea, visiting the abandoned hamlet of A Testa and following a path through the scrubland that leads us along the coast with rocks of various shapes created by erosion. There are many small coves where you can swim. The car park is easily accessible if you have a vehicle with a high ground clearance.

A very pleasant hike, crossing the scrubland scratches your legs, but after the salt marshes you find pretty deserted coves where you can swim.
Access to the car park is possible with a standard vehicle in September 25 (not sure if this will last for years).

A lovely loop, with no major difficulties and plenty of variety.
Access to the car park is parish specific to Brittany and the track has recently been resurfaced. The start along the track is not very interesting but the path that follows is magnificent. Be careful though, the part between the abandoned village and the sea is overgrown with scrub, it stings the legs and children could be very uncomfortable. The track is hard to follow at the end, I made quite a few half-turns, but nothing serious, you're following the coastline anyway.
In the end, I covered 8.6km, had 2 swims in crystal clear water and met 3 people in all, so it was very quiet!
I highly recommend it.

The first part up to the marshes was very nice. But after that, it wasn't very interesting for us, and there was a very strong smell.

Thanks for this route, which would have been difficult to follow without GPS as there were no signposts.
We were on motorbikes and didn't attempt the approach route as it was a bit difficult.
We completed the entire loop and my Garmin GPS shows a little over a kilometre more than yours.
An easy walk with very varied and pleasant scenery.
