Meilleraie loop to Saint-Michel-le-Cloucq

Hike around La Meilleraie with a mostly shaded first section and some unpaved paths, forming a pleasant green tunnel in summer. The second part of the circuit is more open, with a section on the plain. This second part can be avoided by going directly from point (6) to point (9).

Description of the walk

The hike starts at Place de la Kermesse in La Meilleraie (municipality of Saint-Michel-le-Cloucq), with a bus shelter nearby and parking available.

(S/E) Take the path at the end of the square (opposite the road), then turn right and walk 50 metres along Rue de la Grennerie. At the end of this street, turn right and continue for 50 metres.

(1) At the bread oven, turn left and go up Rue de la Garde, then turn right onto Rue du Foudeliez. At the end of the street, turn left and you will come to a crossroads.

(2) Turn right onto Chemin de la Tabatière and continue to Rue du Puits Marchand. Cross the street carefully and continue opposite on Rue de la Fouquetière. At the crossroads, turn left towards La Guinardière. Continue along the unpaved path between the two houses and, further up, take the path on the right, which is part of the GRP® Tour du Pays de Mélusine.

(3) Turn left, then right, cross Route de la Charoulière and continue along the path. Cut across a path and head towards La Martrie.

(4) Go around the hamlet and continue left on Chemin de la Petite Martrie.

No markings

After 300 m, once you have passed the Petite Martrie property on your right, turn right onto the path that joins Rue de la Fontaine. Follow this road to the left until you reach the D104.

(5) Cross carefully at the pedestrian crossing on the right and follow Rue des Chapeliers to the left. Turn right onto Rue du Pin. At the end of this street, cross the D745 carefully (heavy traffic) and continue for about 100 metres.

(6) If you wish, you can take a shortcut to the right towards point (9). Otherwise, continue along the path for about 700 metres to join and follow the "VéloVendée" route (marked path) to the right and arrive at the Rond-Point Monplaisir roundabout.

(7) Carefully go around the roundabout on the right, then cross the D49 (heavy traffic). Continue on the "VéloVendée".

(8) Leave the VéloVendée, turn right to carefully cross the D49 again and continue to the first street on the left.

(9) Turn onto it and, at the fork that appears almost immediately, keep left and continue until you reach a dirt track.

(10) Turn right onto this road and arrive at the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(2) Continue straight ahead to reach Rue du Foudeliez, then turn onto Rue du Calvaire opposite.

(11) At the Calvary, continue down Rue du Puits Marchand until you reach Place de la Kermesse (S/E).
