Description of the walk

Park near the restaurant "Chez Paul" in Bastelica.

(S/E) The path starts to the right of the wash house. You’ll need to open a small gate to access it; the markings are orange. The walk begins with a challenging climb up a path with large stones, heading north-east. You’ll arrive at the Canal de la Volta, dating from the 1930s.

(1) Follow the canal for about 300 m until you reach the spring, which is located below the path and is marked by a sign. You can quench your thirst and fill your water bottles there.

(2) Continue until you reach the waterfall, where you can have a swim.

(3) Then cross the bridge and take the path.
Pigs are everywhere on this section. As they regularly dig up the ground, the path may also be disturbed. Furthermore, the path does not exactly follow the IGN route. You will therefore need to follow the markings and cairns carefully. Continue until you reach a gate marked by numerous orange arrows.

(4) Step over it using the footrest. You will then need to step over another gate to cross a pig pen. Exit the pen through the gate opposite. (Remember to close it behind you). Follow the farm track to the road.

(5) Cross the Pont de Minocchi and take the small path that climbs alongside the campsite fence. Follow the path and cross the Canal de la Volta once more.

(6) Continue straight ahead. The final two hundred metres follow small paths cutting through the vegetation, then past the wash house at the start (S/E).

The first part of the trail to the small bridge over the waterfall is well marked. From the small bridge onwards, the route is more difficult to follow. The markings are sometimes non-existent, so it is essential to download the map before setting off so that you have the GPS route. This second part is a little less interesting: you are in the forest without seeing much. On the last section, in January, we came across lots of wild pigs.
But thank you anyway for the enjoyable hike!

A pleasant start to the hike. After a slightly steep climb, follow the clearly marked yellow trail along an old irrigation canal to the waterfall (not much water at this time of year). The rest of the hike is a little more chaotic. After the footbridge, the orange markings become sporadic and sometimes faded. The descent into the undergrowth is along a path that merges with all the trails made by pigs. Then you can no longer cross the pig enclosure, where a "no trespassing" sign greets you. You then have to turn right and climb up to the top of the fence, then descend back to the original path. Nevertheless, the hike remains interesting

The route is very interesting and is indeed of moderate difficulty (with a few tricky sections).
Please note that the markings for the “start – point 3” section are yellow. Also note that the markings are barely visible just after point 3 (where you cross the bridge); we strayed from the route for a moment. Furthermore, the markings from point 3 onwards revert to orange and could do with some improvement.

A very pleasant, well-shaded walk.
Please note that you must go round the pig pen as it is no longer possible to pass through it. Follow the fence and you will find a path leading back to the road.
The waterfall is not suitable for swimming.

From the wash house to the waterfall, the signposting has been redone (it’s yellow now) and is very clearly visible. The section along the canal is very pleasant. The waterfall is nice, although there are better places for swimming (it’s not very accessible and the water is quite shallow).
However, after the waterfall, between points 3 and 4: with the pigs having dug up the whole area and the orange markings barely visible, it feels like a treasure hunt.
Between points 5 and the finish: apart from near point 5, the path has partly been reclaimed by vegetation; once again, it’s not easy to follow the trail, especially as the markings are virtually non-existent (luckily I’d downloaded the circular route onto my phone!). There’s not much point in doing this section.

A wonderful walk, with a stunning stretch past the waterfall. The section through the pig pens is a bit of a wild ride, but it makes for some lovely memories… Be warned, there’s a bit of a steep climb at the start.
