(S/E) With your back to Brantigny Church, turn left towards Piney and walk for 500m. Before the RD960, take the dirt track on the right which runs alongside this road.
(1) Cross the D960 and follow the farm track straight ahead.
(2) At the junction with the D100, turn left and cross the bridge over the Auzon. At the picnic area, keep left, cross the village of Montangon via the Grande Rue and pass in front of the church.
(3) Turn right onto Rue Cornue, then at the end of the street, take the dirt track to the left and then right. Finally, head up to the left at a place called La Côte de Pougy.
(4) At the top, enjoy the view and turn right to follow the path sheltered by a hedge. At the end of this path, head back down to the right.
(5) At the bottom, before the village of Auzon-les-Marais, turn left and pass a wayside cross and two chestnut trees. After the large farm, turn right onto Ruelle du Marais to reach the village centre.
(6) After the church, take the street on the right, passing the war memorial (the car park at Auzon church is another possible starting point). Immediately turn left onto Rue Poncelat, follow the D50 towards Villehardouin then the D200 towards Lesmont, passing the grain silo.
(7) Cross the D960 (watch out for traffic) and head straight up the dirt track towards the plain. At the top of the hill, turn right, then after 200m turn left to head down alongside the quarry.
(8) At the bottom, follow the small wood to the right. After the wood, keep to the right and then turn left, following the dirt track towards the village of Villehardouin.
(9) At the entrance to Villehardouin, follow the D50 through the village. At the crossroads, turn right onto Rue Gaullière and head straight up towards the Croît viewpoint (orientation table).
(10) At the top, by the small car park at the viewpoint, take the grassy path on the left which leads to the orientation table and head back down the other side of the hill, turning right then left to reach the hamlet of Brantigny and the church (S/E).
I came across a herd of deer – it was magnificent!
