Circular route around Basse-Heuval in Villers-la-Ville

A 5.5 km circular route through woods and fields around Basse Heuval in the municipality of Villers-la-Ville. A fairly varied and very peaceful route, no road noise – pure bliss! Part of the walk takes place in the woods and the other part in the countryside.

Description of the walk

Start at the Chapel of Notre-Dame des Affligés, 500 metres from Villers-la-Ville Abbey.

GPS: Rue de l'Abbaye 7 - 1495 Villers-la-Ville (junction of Rue de l'Abbaye and Chemin Notre-Dame).

There are a few parking spaces near the chapel.
Alternative parking 500 metres away on Avenue Georges Speeckaert (large free car park at Villers-la-Ville Abbey).

(S/E) Facing the chapel, take Trail No. 31 which climbs to the right into the woods. Cross a field, then a patch of woodland.
At the T-junction, take Trail No. 45 to the left, then the first path leading down to the right (Trail No. 31).

(1) Once at the bottom, turn left onto Path No. 4 (Rue de Mellery) and continue straight on, ignoring the paths branching off to the right, until you reach Rue de l’Abbaye (a cobbled street). Turn right onto Rue de l’Abbaye, then take the first left 250 metres further on, onto Rue de Basse-Heuval.

(2) About 300 metres further on (at the bottom of the descent), take Trail No. 44 on the right, which leads into the woods. On leaving the woods, walk along the meadow (on the left)

(3) Then, at the signpost, take Trail No. 18 on the left (before the concrete road) to head back towards the woods. This trail continues onto Trail No. 52 and then onto Path No. 23 (to be taken to the right).

(4) At the crossroads at the bottom of the descent, take Trail No. 43 on the left and take the first path on the right 20 metres further on (Trail No. 22 – follow the GR® markings).

(5) At the T-junction 600 metres further on, follow the GR® markings to the right.

(6) At the crossroads, continue along Chemin du Bati Gai (No. 22) to the left (leaving the GR®) and follow it to Rue de l’Abbaye.

(7) Take Rue de l'Abbaye to the right and, after about 50 metres, turn right onto the small path that runs alongside the street for just over 100 metres. Then head right to reach the crossroads known as "L’Étoile".

(8) Take Path No. 29 on the left, which joins the starting point on the left (S/E).
