Park at the Col du Pradel.
(S/E) Take theGR® 7B (white and red markings) heading north-west, climbing up the shoulder of Pic de Serembarre.
(1) Once you reach the shoulder, leave the trail and head north towards Pic de Serembarre (1,851 m). There are no particular difficulties, except that it is off-trail.
(2) From the top of the peak, there is a wide panorama to the west and south; the ski resorts of Ascou-Pailhères and Ax-Bonascre are easily spotted. Continue along the ridge (easy but off-trail) heading north, alternating between small passes and peaks. Pass the Col de l'Orri (1,809 m) and then climb gently, still on the ridge, to reach Picou Rendouillère.
(3) Here, the panorama unfolds to the north; on a clear day, you may be able to see Castelnaudary through a gap in the trees. Descend south, first off the trail and then on a well-marked cattle track heading southwest.
(4) This track becomes an easy path (somewhat worn, see photo) that becomes increasingly horizontal: do not descend, but cross along the hillside. After a short climb, you will find a gravelly, steeply descending track suitable for 4x4 vehicles.
(5) Follow this path, which quickly veers left towards the east. At the bottom of the descent, you will reach a pasture that is also used as a log storage area and arrive at an enclosure used in summer to gather and sort herds.
(6) At this point, you will come to a forest road (mostly flat) which you will follow until you reach the tarmac road on the Aude side (D107).
(7) Turn right and follow this road with caution due to passing cars and occasional forestry convoys. Pass two hairpin bends and continue to the Col de Pradel (S/E).
