Description of the walk

In the village of Marcenais, head towards the Moulin de Charlot and park opposite the mill. You’ll find a shaded area with a watermill that can be visited on certain days.

(S/E) Head towards La Moulinasse by crossing the bridge.

(1) At the junction, turn right and continue straight on.

(2) Turn right towards Le Roc and join the D133.

(3) Turn left, pass La Brande and, at the junction, carry on straight ahead.

(4) After the buildings at Grand Barrail, turn left towards Tizac-de-Lapouyade.

(5) At the next junction, turn left towards Brois, then right onto the dirt track when you reach the hamlet. Follow this track, keeping to the right. It ends with a short descent leading onto the D133E11 road.

(6) Turn left and cross the railway line, which is used by a steam train.

(7) After a short climb, turn left towards La Moulinasse.

(8) At the Petites Nauves junction, turn left again, leaving the access to Les Charbonnières on your left, and head towards a junction.

(9) Turn left, still heading towards La Moulinasse. Turn left at the end of this road, cross the railway line: on your right, you will see the platform used for the train when it is running (departing from Guitres).

(1) Once you reach La Moulinasse, turn right onto the road leading to Moulin Charlot. In good weather, you can cut through the woods on the right: there is a path signposted with signs that will take you back to the car park (S/E).

I encourage you to visit the website: , which provides some historical and tourist information about this steam train, brought back to life by a handful of volunteers.

Hello, I’d already done this route back in 2018. For a change, we set off from the church in Marcenais
and followed the River Saigne to the mill – it was lovely. A day’s fishing full of encounters
as the river has been re-engineered to improve the flow... and then we resumed the normal route
One slight downside. Is the path at Tizac de Lapouyade becoming dangerous? It’s not maintained and crossing the little bridge is a bit risky
What a shame. Apart from that, a very pleasant walk, especially in fine weather like yesterday.

A very pleasant circular walk. When the weather is dry, you can vary the route by taking paths through the woods.
A lovely discovery.

A lovely little countryside walk! However, there aren’t really any places to stop for a picnic along the way (only after you’ve completed the circular walk), so my advice would be to pop into the restaurant at the Moulin de Charlot for a bite to eat. It’s a really pleasant and interesting spot!

Circular route along quiet country lanes – best tackled only when the undergrowth is very muddy.
