Brionnais bocage from Oyé

A 20 km route through the heart of the Charolais countryside, passing through meadows, hedgerows and traditional farmhouses. Discover an authentic rural landscape and Charolais cattle in a preserved natural setting. This walk will take you towards Chaumont Castle, which you can see from the road.

Description of the walk

The start of the route is near the church.

(S/E) Head right towards the church.

(1) Head up to the left until you reach the D158.

(2) At the cross, continue right along the road then turn immediately left towards Chaumont via Daron. At the next junction, continue straight ahead then turn right at the following one. Pass the houses and follow the path. Turn left, take the left fork, then turn right twice and go round the Château de Daron. Continue straight on and pass close to the Château de Chaumont. Admire it and visit it in season.

(3) In Chaumont, head straight ahead and turn left towards Le Fragne. Cross over and continue straight on for 1.2 km.

(4) On leaving Le Fragne, turn right and follow the path towards Les Brosses to join the D20.

(5) Follow it to the left, then turn right. Cross the bridge over the stream and follow the path to the left.

(6) At Les Brosses, turn left towards Le Pâquier de Bœuf and reach the D108. Follow it to the left for 300 m, then turn right, then right again, then left. Walk alongside the woods.

(7) At Pâquier de Bœuf, continue straight on to the D158. Cross it and continue to the pond. Turn left, then take the steep path on the right up to the D34.

(8) Cross it and continue along the path opposite, skirting the Bois des Forges. At the next junction, turn left. Near the farm, turn left, follow the road for 200 metres, then take the path on the right.

(9) Turn right and then keep left to reach the Bois des Grandes Brosses. Turn right towards the Homme Mort. Cross the woods. When you reach the tarmac, walk a few metres and turn left, pass the pond and continue straight on. At the junction, turn right and cross the Bois Bouton. Come out onto the D20.

(10) Follow it to the right. At the crossroads, turn left and continue straight ahead to L’Homme Mort.

(11) Continue straight on towards Sancenay. Walk for 1.2 km, keeping straight ahead, then take the path on the left. Continue straight on for 1.4 km.

(12) At Géray, turn left towards Sancenay then take the first left.

(13) At the next junction, turn right and pass close to the Chapel of Sancenay. You can stop there. Continue straight ahead then turn right towards Oyé. Join the D158.

(14) Follow it to the left until you reach the village. Return to the junction from the outward journey. On arrival, you can visit the “La Mémoire d’Oyé” museum during the season.

(2) Turn left and, following the route in reverse, return to the starting point (S/E).
