Departure from the hamlet of Frutgères: this hamlet, once the parish capital, developed well before the Pont-de-Montvert.
(S/E) Follow the red and white GR® markings towards Les Merlets. On leaving the hamlet, pass the cemetery and continue on the GR® which climbs through the pastures.
(1) Pass through the hamlet of Les Merlets, then continue to follow the red and white markings towards "Mas de la Barque, Pont du Tarn, Bois de la Mouline" (north-east). The path continues to climb through pastures, offering beautiful views of the valley, the Massif du Bougès and, in the distance, the Causses. You will arrive at the Col de l'Ancise.
(2) Leave the GR® and follow the water channel on the left along the path that runs alongside it on the right bank. The pastures give way to a magnificent beech forest. Follow the water channel to its source: the water intake in the River Tarn.
Yellow signposting
(3) You can easily cross the Tarn, which flows between large flat rocks, then climb up the other bank to rejoin the Promenade et Randonnée (PR®) trail, marked in yellow. (Alternatively, you can follow the path on the left bank of the Tarn until you rejoin the PR® marked in yellow at the Gué de Gasbiel). Follow the path on the left until you reach the paved road: Chemin de l'Hôpital.
(4) Turn left and, further on, cross the hamlet of Villeneuve.
(5) At the exit of the hamlet, take the path on the left, which winds its way through pastures and woods.
(6) At the crossroads, follow the sign for "La Veissière" on the right as you climb and you will reach this hamlet.
(7) Cross the hamlet and the stone signs for "Pont de Montvert".
(8) At Prat de la Riviere, take the unmarked path that descends to the left but remains marked in yellow and follow it until you reach the D998 at the bridge over the Tarn. Cross the river.
Red and white GR® markings
(9) On the other side, 50 m further on, rejoin the GR® and turn left. The path takes you back to the hamlet of Frutgères (S/E).
