Walk between the Meuse and Meuse rivers from Baimont

This beautiful, fairly challenging hike explores the Meuse on either side of the centre of Hastière, crossing the meander between Heer-Agimont and Waulsort twice. Whilst the higher sections are in the countryside, the rest of the route follows paths and, above all, forest trails where progress is not always easy. Only the banks of the Meuse and the area around the Quatre Chemins crossroads are flat. The two architectural gems are undoubtedly Waulsort Castle (a former abbey – with a splendid view from the top of the rock with the flag) and the former Ermitage des Cascatelles. The village of Waulsort has a few fine buildings on the left bank, dating (probably) from the late19th or early20th century .

Notes

Although the total distance is not huge, the elevation gain should not be underestimated. The hike is classified as difficult due to the steep slopes and climbs encountered, and the fact that the route often resembles a trail running track more than a hiking or walking path.
There are a few picnic tables along the route at (9), (11) and (13).
There are no shops, bars or restaurants on the route itself.
Brasserie Les Étoiles, located to the south-east of the holiday village, may accept customers from outside the village (please check in advance if interested).

Worth a visit

(6) Splendid view of the Meuse, Waulsort and its castle (a former 17th-century abbey) from the top of the rock with the flag.

(10) The ferryman takes pedestrians from early April to late September (plus a few weekends in October) and ferries them across to the other bank free of charge, using only the strength of his arms.

Les Cascatelles between (11) and (5)... a babbling brook is often prettier when you walk upstream!

(12) The old Ermitage des Cascatelles has been transformed from a (near) ruin into a little gem.
