Description of the walk

(S/E) From the town hall car park, turn left to go up the D41 towards Grosne, leaving Rue de l'Ardennaise on your left, then Impasse des Prés Charmilles on your right. At the next roundabout, turn right without leaving the D41. Caution: traffic.

(1) At the village exit, turn left onto Rue des Chaumières, turn right with the street and continue to a crossroads. Turn left and continue straight ahead on the farm track which turns right, left and then right again, running alongside a copse and ponds.

(2) At the entrance to Grosne, turn left and the route descends between two ponds. At the next crossroads (elevation 368), turn right and then right again (elevation 363) onto the path that returns to Grosne and leads to the D41. Continue for about 50 metres to the left.

(3) Turn right to go up Rue de la Fontaine, which quickly joins Rue du Général de Gaulle (D13). Continue to the right and follow the D13 to Vellescot. At the central crossroads, turn left onto the D3, then leave the D11 on your left. Caution: traffic.

(4) 50 metres further on, follow a farm track to the right. At the next intersection, turn left, then 300 metres further on, turn left again at a right angle near a pond.

(5) At the next crossroads, turn right. At a pond, the path veers to the right (south) and crosses a wood for over a kilometre before reaching the dyke of the Étang du Poirier Lourd.

(6) Walk along the right-hand side of the pond and join the D13.

(7) Cross it carefully and go down the steps opposite to reach the pond. Turn left and go around the pond. Turn right when you reach the forest and walk along the other side of the pond. Cross the footbridge and continue along the path in the forest. Follow the markings carefully and leave a path on your right. The path runs along a narrow strip of forest between two fields and further on joins a main path.

(8) Take it on the right. Cross the forest and, once at the edge, veer left then right and you will come out onto a wide path at a multiple crossroads.

(9) Turn right to return to the first houses in Boron.

(10) At the crossroads, continue left to return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Notes

Car park at Boron Town Hall, Rue de la Libération.

Visorando was informed by Mr Chevalley, a volunteer member of Balisage90, based on brochures published by the Sud Territoire community of municipalities.
Thanks to the community of communes and balisage90, who have just modified the route following a request from a local resident. They have installed a beautiful footbridge shortly after point (7).

Worth a visit

Normanvillars.

Boron occupies part of the former village of Normanvillars, which disappeared in the 15th century. Normanvillars was first mentioned in 1105, when the Priory of Froidefontaine was founded. By 1575, the village was considered to have long since disappeared. The destruction of the village can be attributed to armed bands of former mercenaries who ravaged France in the 15th century during the reign of Charles VII. Some of these bands, which were particularly ferocious, were known as the Écorcheurs.
In 1745, Mennonites, a Protestant and Anabaptist religious movement, took possession of the site and formed a locality dependent on the seigneury of Florimont. Today, all that remains are a few scattered farms, a chapel known as the Mennonite chapel, and a cemetery.

Along the way:
• In Boron: Saint-Luc Church, built between 1849 and 1850, houses the Saint-Luc organ, which was installed in 1879. Its
case is made of oak and features rich neo-baroque decorations.
• Saint Anthony of Padua, a gilded wooden statue, dates from the late 18th or early 19th
century.

• In Grosne: Saint Paul's Church houses an altarpiece depicting the apotheosis of the saint, as well as listed tombstones
listed as historic monuments. In the cemetery, there is a cross from 1764 that is listed as a historic monument.

• In Vellescot: the Pré Gourais wash house and fountain, built in 1886 by the architect Amondru, well known in Franche-Comté.

A good route for getting back into walking... 11 km. Point No. 7 indicates to cross the road and take a staircase opposite, which has disappeared! A small 'red dot' sign is needed at the edge of the pond opposite this descent to confirm the access point, as we were unsure about the directions given that the next landmark is 200 metres away... on the left towards the woods, which meant we had to go back and forth several times. Otherwise, it's good overall with plenty of shaded areas.

A beautiful hike with no difficulty whatsoever. I would describe it as "easy" rather than "moderate". Very well marked route. At point 7 (the section in the forest), the signposting is really excellent. Thank you to the community of communes and Balisage90.

A beautiful, easy hike. Perhaps best done in spring or autumn when the ponds are clearly visible. At present, they are hidden by vegetation. The forest paths are very pleasant, but those in the fields have not yet been mowed.
