Auxillacquoise walk

You’ll discover the hidden Chardonnet valley, which feeds into the River Lot. The route starts in the hamlet of Auxillac at the free, open-access car park by the inn, which has been converted into a microbrewery. You can visit this historic site before setting off across the causse for an idyllic walk through fields and woods.

Description of the walk

Park in the Auxillac car park.

(S/E) Head towards the roundabout, go round it on the left via the pedestrian crossing, then continue along Rue de la Fraternité.

(1) At the junction by the church, turn left, walking past the old town hall to head into the heart of the village. Keep right onto Rue du Gévaudan, then turn right again to follow the Côte du Catelmas. Continue along the path, keeping right at the first fork and then left at the next, until you reach a junction at a place called Les Couronnes.

(2) Take the path uphill, keeping to your left.

(3) Head diagonally to the right: be careful, as the path is hard to spot at first and is somewhat hidden by the vegetation. Join a wider path, turn left and continue to the crossroads (farm building). Turn left to quickly come out onto a tarmac road and follow it, turning left again.

(4) Leave the road and head back up to your left, taking the dirt track.

(5) Head down to the road, then make your way to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

The Auberge du Parking, with its playground, is none other than the birthplace of Céleste Albaret, who was Marcel Proust’s governess.
Today, the Auberge is a microbrewery, tapas bar and games bar. For more information, visit https://www.ortan.fr
