The hike starts in Coupvray (Seine et Marne), at the car park of the swimming pool on the D45a
You can get there by car or bus; in this case, get off at the "Coupvray école, route de Lesches" stop. http://marne-et-morin.groupe-espaces.com...
(S/E) Head towards the centre of the village via Rue de Lesches, with the schools on your right. Cross the canal.
(1) At the end of the bridge, turn right at the pedestrian crossing.
Red and whiteGR® markings
This pedestrian crossing will take you to Rue de Lesches le Canal, where you turn left. Continue to Rue Louis Braille, where you turn right.
Pass in front of Louis Braille's birthplace.
(2) Continue along the sunken path that climbs to the left. After walking about 200 metres along this path, you will come to a fork at the edge of the woods.
No signposts
(3) Go down to the left along the path where large steps have been built to Rue du Moulin.
(4) Cross the bridge on the right and climb the steps of the Sente des Petits Ponts. After walking along a slight incline for about 100 metres and crossing the footbridge, turn left and continue up the steps that lead to the town hall square, behind the war memorial.
(5) Turn right, walk past the church and cross the narrow pedestrian crossing to reach Rue de Paris. Continue to Route de Chalifert.
(6) There, you have two options:
(6a) If you are hiking on a day when the castle grounds are open, continue along Rue de Paris until you reach the entrance to the grounds. Enter and take the long tour of the grounds, passing by the castle ruins, then return to point 6 and continue the circuit.
(6b) If you are hiking on a day when the castle grounds are closed, there is no point in going to the grounds, and the length of the circuit will be reduced to 11 km.
Turn right onto Route de Chalifert (D5). Walk along this road, cross over the TGV line and, when you reach Chalifert (the road is then called Rue Louis Braille), walk alongside the cemetery and the church. At the junction with Rue Charles Vaillant, continue straight ahead (the road changes name again to Rue Jean de la Fontaine) until you reach Allée Saint-Éloi, which is a no-entry road for vehicles. Turn right into this alleyway to pass a little further on in front of the Taratte tower.
(8). At the end of Allée Saint-Éloi, continue along the path that descends and leads to aGR® (red and white) marked trail.
Red and whiteGR® markings
Take this path on the left, which will lead you to the Chalifert lock on the banks of the Marne.
(9) Follow the course of the river to reach the Dhuis sculpture garden.
(10) Turn back towards the Chalifert lock and continue along theGR® trail, which climbs up the hill before descending on the other side to a first and then a second road, which you cross in succession to take the small road that leads to the Lesches lock.
No markings
(11) Cross over the lock using the footbridge and continue left on the poorly maintained small road that takes you back to Coupvray, near the pedestrian crossing providing access to the D45a, and turn left. Cross the bridge over the canal again to return to the car park at the starting point (S/E).
