Car park at the Maison des Associations, Grand Rue in Mallemort.
(S/E) Set off along the Grand Rue and head towards the village church.
(1) Keep the bell tower on your right and take Rue Antoine Réboul, then Rue René Armenico, which leads you to the playground near the Durance.
(2) Cross Route de la Grande Terre and walk past the old lock house. Turn left towards the bridge over the Durance, following the “digue des prises” that runs alongside the river.
(3) Do not go under the bridge but turn left to reach the entrance to the bridge. Go up onto the bridge and, keeping to the right-hand side, cross the Durance, taking great care.
(4) Take the path leading into the fields on your right, markedGR®. Stay on this path and at the first junction turn right and then immediately left.
(5) Stay on the track on the right and head towards the sewage treatment plant. Continue to the Canal de Carpentras.
(6) Turn right and follow the canal to the water intake, then take the small track leading off to your left. A little further on, climb up onto the embankment. Head to the bird observatory and spend some time watching the birds on the lake (great cormorants, swans, grey herons, little egrets, etc.). In winter, there are fewer birds but the waterside scenery is stunning.
(7) Continue along the track to the Mérindol cliff.
(8) Head back down the track and return along the same route to the small bridge over the Canal de Carpentras.
(6) Cross this bridge and take the Chemin des Basiscions on the right. After the ranch, turn left onto the Chemin Carrière de la Brousse and join the path along the dyke.
(5) Turn right again and continue to the D23.
(4) Cross the Durance bridge again, keeping to the left.
(9) At the Durance roundabout, take Avenue des Frères Roqueplan on the left. At the next roundabout, take Rue du Moulin opposite.
(10) When you reach the 11 Novembre car park, turn into Cours Marius Taché, which leads you to the Grand Rue. Turn right towards the starting car park (S/E).
