A day out in the Swiss Normandy region. Beautiful scenery along well-signposted paths.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park by the village church.

(S/E) Set off towards Fourneaux-le-Val via the D 244. Continue to the wayside cross after passing Groussy.

(1) Take the path on the right, then, at a Fork in the road, follow it to the left. Take the first path on the left and head down to the hamlet of Fourbœuf.

(2) Head down towards the houses and cross the River Baize via a narrow bridge. Turn right onto the ascending path which leads onto a road opposite a farm. The farm is flanked by two paths. Take the one on the right.

(3) Follow the track overlooking the Baize valley for 2.5 km until you reach a tarmac road. At one point, you’ll be stopped by a fence. Open the chain and make sure you close it again.

(4) Turn right onto the D245 and follow it for 200 m, then turn left onto a track running parallel to the road, which will take you to a narrow bridge. Head back up towards the village and, at the crossroads, turn right.

(5) At the church in Ménil-Vin, turn left towards Canteloup.

(6) Turn onto the track on the right. Go round a farm, then cross it to join the track opposite. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the D244.

(7) Follow the road to the left. Take the first road on the right towards “la Huannière”. When the road bends to the right, turn left.

(8) Shortly afterwards, turn right. At the T-junction, turn right again.

(9) Just before you reach a road, turn left onto a track. The start may be muddy. After about 2 km, you’ll come to a tarmac road. Continue straight on along the Chemin de Caen.

(10) Follow this small road to the right until you reach the first footpath on the right.

(11) Enter a tunnel of foliage and continue until you reach the junction with a road.

(12) Turn left onto this road to reach the village church tower and the car park (S/E).

A lovely route, with beautiful views from the higher ground.
One slight downside is that some sections aren’t well maintained; we picked up some ticks. A shame.

Thank you for taking part. It’s true that there’s a lot of water. The sun is expected.

A walk best done in summer if you don’t want to struggle. The path is very, very wet. Out of 12 km, at least 3 km are along a rather uninteresting road.

A lovely walk, not technically difficult.
But watch out for damp conditions in winter.
It was a surprise to see a roe deer come onto the path and follow it quietly for a few minutes before disappearing into a maize field.
Highly recommended.
