Description of the walk

Park in the large dirt car park (free) near the “L’usine” concert hall, Route de Fos.

(S/E) Turn your back to the road and, after the barrier, take the path on the left, towards the ruins of the abandoned factory’s boundary wall. Once facing the wall, take the path on the right, leading to a viewpoint over the Rassuen salt marsh.

(1) Continue to the right. After the enclosure, at the junction, turn left (the path no longer exists) and find the descent under the trees. Then turn right to walk alongside the salt marsh.

(2) At the junction, take the path on the left to head back towards the salt marsh. Cross a stretch where thistles have overgrown the path for about ten metres, and shortly afterwards reach a crossroads.

(3) Continue to the right. Cross the Route de la Cabane Noire, and take the path opposite, which slopes steeply to the right.

(4) Cross another section of the Route de la Cabane Noire, and take the path opposite, beneath the high-voltage power line. Follow this path to the Étang de Citis, and reach a viewpoint.

(5) Continue right along the path, look out for the fire pump on the hill, and head towards the Route de Lavalduc. A few dozen metres before reaching it, take the path on the right which leads to the Route de Saint-Blaise.

(6) Cross it carefully and follow the path opposite. After the horse farm, take the path on the left between the two stones, cross the bridge and continue to the right, just before the Canal de Capeau. You’ll reach the viewpoint over the Étang de Lavalduc and, at the junction, head towards the canal on the left to reach another viewpoint, this time over the ruins of the aqueduct.

(7) Take the path on the left to cross the Canal de Capeau, then turn right towards the oak grove.

(8) Enter the remarkable oak grove, cross the Canal de Capeau again, and you will soon reach a crossroads.

(9) Head left and return to the canal.

(10) Ignore the path branching off to the left and continue straight on to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
