We set off from a village where several herding dogs, some more aggressive than others, roam freely.

Up to waypoint 1, a stony, dusty track heavily used by local 4x4s and campers from the wild camp set up halfway along.
I’ll spare you the details of the huge pile of manure on the side of the track.

At waypoint 1, it’s impossible to continue because of a huge Anatolian Shepherd guarding a fence positioned right along the path!

Verdict: a TOTAL waste of time!

A lovely, easy walk with a stunning view of the Dévoluy valley at the end. For keen walkers, head to the Col de Charnier, following the Adroits stream at the foot of the Grand-Ferrand. A lunar landscape. Marmots and eagles await.

A lovely climb along some beautiful paths. We carried on to the Col de Charnier. The chamois in the scree, followed by the view over Lac Lauzon and the La Jarjatte valley, are well worth adding an extra hour to an hour and a half to the hike.
