Description of the walk

The hike begins at the Remparts car park, Route de Compiègne (D332), at the northern exit of Crépy-en-Valois.

(S/E) Use the stairs behind the car park to descend onto the tarmac path running parallel to the ramparts (on your left) and continue to the junction with a path leading up to the town.

GR® trail markers (red and white)

Turn left and walk to a fork in the road at the foot of the wall, where you turn right onto a steeply sloping path that leads you to Chemin des Remparts.

(1) Turn right. The path turns left shortly afterwards. As you approach a water treatment plant, turn left onto Chemin du Moulin Picard. This leads to the D116E road after about a kilometre, near a large house.

(2) Take the D116E on the left and continue to the entrance to the village of Duvy. At the fork, continue right towards Rocquemont. Pass in front of the mill and turn left onto Rue d'Orléans. At the crossroads at the end of this street, continue straight ahead for about 100 metres, then turn right onto Rue du Transformateur.

(3) At the corner of the transformer station fence, turn right onto the farm track heading north-west across a large plain covered with fields. TheGR® turns left onto another farm track one kilometre further on (it passes at the foot of the high-voltage pylon).

No markings

Leave theGR® and continue straight ahead. The farm track curves to the left, gradually heading west and ending at Rue Saint-Pierre in the village of Trumilly, near a pond.

(4) Turn right. As you pass No. 7, you can see a beautiful farm typical of this region. Go straight across the first crossroads and, at the next one, turn right onto Rue de Drucy. You will pass the Brasserie Saint-Rieul and then the Foyer Saint-Rieul. Continue along this road to the village of Rocquemont, which you will enter by crossing a crossroads with a cross in memory of those who died in the 1914-1918 war.

(5) Cross the village following this street and, at the crossroads in the hollow of the valley, take Rue de L'Église opposite, which climbs back up to the plateau. Pass in front of the church.

(6) Turn right onto the path that continues along a track running to the right of a large building.
This track descends steadily to the bottom of the valley. When you reach a crossroads where the track opposite becomes a private road closed by a barrier, turn right. Cross the bottom of the valley and take the track on the left, following the base of the other slope. Continue to the crossroads with a small road near a tennis court.

(7) Turn left and cross the bridge. Then continue to the crossroads where you turn left and then right onto Chemin des Écoliers a few metres further on. This path climbs up the hillside, passes over a railway line and arrives at a crossroads with aGR® marked route.

(8) Turn right and then right again a few dozen metres further on. The path reaches the plateau, follows the edge of a wood and ends on a farm track in a hollow in front of the gate to a property.

(9) Turn left and then right 200 metres further on, and follow a wide farm track, which is stony in places, for a good two kilometres until you reach a crossroads with the D332.

No signposts

(10) Continue straight ahead along Rue d'Hazemont to the centre of the hamlet. Turn into the first street on the right.

(11) A few metres further on, use the steps on the right to descend via a footpath to the D335 road.
Turn right and continue to the ramparts car park (S/E).

Notes

This hike is accessible by public transport. Crépy-en-Valois station is only one kilometre from the Remparts car park. For train timetables, visit the Transilien website.

In this case, exit the station in front of the main building, cross the square, and take Avenue Paul Pauchet opposite, which connects to Rue Charles de Gaulle (it begins between two monumental stone columns). The street changes name halfway along to become Rue Nationale and arrives at the south-east corner of Place de la République. Cross this square diagonally. Take the passageway that opens up at the north-west corner to reach Chemin de Ronde. The Rempart car park is on your left as you go down.

Worth a visit

The churches in the villages of Duvy, Trumilly, Rocquemont and Magneval. These churches are usually closed. The interior can be visited during the "35 clochers de la Vallée de l'Automne" event, which takes place every year in October.

A very beautiful hike during the week

I couldn't find a direct train from Paris at weekends, which was a shame

Just a mistake on my part shortly after the Crépy-en-Valois water treatment plant. At a Y junction where I should have turned left, I turned right. After 50 metres, the recorded route made me realise I was on the wrong path.
Otherwise, it was a very pleasant hike. The description was reliable, the villages were pretty, and there was a very pleasant contrast between the fairly dark, even very dark undergrowth and the plain bathed in bright sunshine.

A lovely walk. Passing through beautiful villages.
How beautiful my countryside is!
The description was quite detailed. I brought an IGN map with me anyway.
It was the first time I had gone out on my own, and I managed just fine.

Very beautiful, varied walk. Dangerous section along the roadside with traffic on the day of our hike between points 2 and 3.

A return hike for our club. A varied route alternating between woodland, wide open spaces and along a river.
For some of you, this was your first time discovering this area, with just a few slightly long stretches of tarmac. That said, we were often alone on the road.
