  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 37 m
  2. 1 : km 0 - alt. 37 m - Leave Guildford station via the main, platform 2b, exit end bear right along the station approach towards the town.
  3. 2 : km 0.16 - alt. 35 m - Cross the road (Walnut Tree Close) at the light-controlled crossing and follow the pavement on the far side to your right, signposted for pedestrians to the 'Town Centre'.
  4. 3 : km 0.19 - alt. 35 m - Bear left into Bridge Street and continue forward, over the river bridge.
  5. 4 : km 0.25 - alt. 31 m - Once over the bridge turn immediately left down steps between the river and Blenheim House.
  6. 5 : km 0.3 - alt. 31 m - Bear slightly right through the carpark and along the alley way beside the New House Art Space & Gallery. Entry to the gallery is free and Frida's Coffee House is here.
  7. 6 : km 0.32 - alt. 31 m - Beyond the gallery, bear left across the car park to find the pedestrian bridge over the river.
  8. 7 : km 0.49 - alt. 30 m - Cross the river and turn right and immediately right again to descend steps to the river. At the bottom of the steps, turn left along the towpath.
  9. 8 : km 1.4 - alt. 29 m - Continue forward along the towpath for about half a mile to the railway viaduct. Climb the wooden steps to the footbridge and cross the river.
  10. 9 : km 1.64 - alt. 33 m - Continue forward along the footpath until you reach the road. Turn left to go under the railway bridge and use the light controlled crossing to cross the road.
  11. 10 : km 1.75 - alt. 33 m - Once across the road, backtrack slightly to turn into Recreation Road.
  12. 11 : km 1.86 - alt. 34 m - In about 100 yards turn left across the recreation ground.
  13. 12 : km 2.07 - alt. 33 m - Exit the recreation grounds on the far side. There are seats here. Turn right along Stocton Road. - Seats
  14. 13 : km 2.29 - alt. 33 m - At the end of Stocton Road turn left and cross the road at the light controlled crossing. As you step off the crossing, go slightly left and right to follow the path ahead beside the former lodge, 'No 106'.
  15. 14 : km 2.54 - alt. 37 m - Follow pavement past the Lido and then along the path marked in the road. Cross at the crossing point and bear left to continue following the line of the road.
  16. 15 : km 2.63 - alt. 42 m - The road bends left then right. After the short uphill section where you are walking in the road, turn right into a small carpark.
  17. 16 : km 2.68 - alt. 42 m - Go through the pedestrian gat to your left and follow the path behind the college and past the skate park.
  18. 17 : km 2.87 - alt. 40 m - The path drops down through woodland to an iron gate. Go through the gate into into Stoke Park Gardens where you will find seats. - Seats
  19. 18 : km 3.04 - alt. 43 m - Wander through the park beside a lake to find Stoke Park Kiosk. To your right is a high brick well. Go through the arch and turn immediately left alongside the tennis court.
  20. 19 : km 3.11 - alt. 43 m - At the end of the tennis court go straight ahead to wander through the play garden.
  21. 20 : km 3.24 - alt. 40 m - At the far end of the play garden turn sharp left and down to the exit onto Nightingale Road.
  22. 21 : km 3.34 - alt. 43 m - Turn left along Nightingale Road for a short distance and then right into Kings Road.
  23. 22 : km 3.5 - alt. 40 m - Go under the very low railway arch to Stoke Road and turn left . There are several pubs and cafes here.
  24. 23 : km 3.6 - alt. 41 m - Cross at the light controlled crossing and about 40 yards further on bear right into Stoke Fields, a narrow lane behind the Prince Albert Pub.
  25. 24 : km 3.91 - alt. 37 m - At the bottom of Stoke Fields bear left and cross the road at the light controlled crossing. Once across the road turn left and then right into Sandfield Terrace.
  26. 25 : km 4.12 - alt. 41 m - At the end of Sandfield Terrace turn left into The Bars and continue forward along the footpath and under the arch.
  27. 26 : km 4.22 - alt. 45 m - Turn right into Chertsey Street and, after 40 yards, left into Allen House Grounds.
  28. 27 : km 4.44 - alt. 52 m - At the far side of Allen House Grounds you will find the Hideaway Cafe. Exit the grounds via the path to the right of the cafe.
  29. 28 : km 4.5 - alt. 53 m - Turn right along Eastgate Gardens and then right and left through a parking area to the High Street.
  30. 29 : km 4.71 - alt. 56 m - Turn right along the High Street
  31. 30 : km 4.77 - alt. 56 m - Cross the road using the light controlled crossing outside Guildford Grammar School and continue forward along the other side of the road.
  32. 31 : km 4.89 - alt. 53 m - At the traffic lights keep ahead passing the statue of George Abbott and onwards towards Holy Trinity Church.
  33. 32 : km 5.01 - alt. 61 m - Turn left up the alleyway beside the church and, at the top, follow the path round to the right past the Royal Oak pub.
  34. 33 : km 5.06 - alt. 63 m - Once past the pub, turn left and, in a short distance, right onto Sydenham Road.
  35. 34 : km 5.15 - alt. 58 m - In a short distance, Guildford Castle will come into view. Cross the road to the March Hare pub and go along the path to the right of the pub.
  36. 35 : km 5.18 - alt. 57 m - At the end of the pub wall, bear left into the Castle Grounds. You may be able to spot the bowling green, ahead.
  37. 36 : km 5.22 - alt. 57 m - At the bowling green, bear left and skirt round the green to the far right hand corner. - Seats
  38. 37 : km 5.36 - alt. 56 m - At the end of the far side of the bowling green, follow the path right to drop down and through an underpass to emerge at the foot of Guildford Castle.
  39. 38 : km 5.41 - alt. 53 m - Come out of the underpass and turn left. (Alternatively, you can turn right and then left to walk up the castle to take in the view from the top. There are several routes back down again.) - Seats
  40. 39 : km 5.46 - alt. 48 m - Bear left to exit the Castle Grounds.
  41. 40 : km 5.5 - alt. 46 m - Bear right and then cross the road (Castle Hill) to go up the steps ahead into Castle Cliffe Gardens. Take care, traffic on Castle Hill can approach quite suddenly from around the bend to your left.
  42. 41 : km 5.59 - alt. 48 m - Exit the gardens via the path at the far corner and continue along the path.
  43. 42 : km 5.66 - alt. 48 m - At the end of the path, descend the stairs and then bear left over the grass and up the hill to the hedge at the far side.
  44. 43 : km 5.74 - alt. 47 m - Exit through the right hand gap in the trees towards a modern, white house, and follow the path beside the house to the road.
  45. 44 : km 5.78 - alt. 49 m - At the end of the path, go up the steps and turn right (Abbot Road.) This almost immediately becomes a track. Continue along the track.
  46. 45 : km 5.93 - alt. 44 m - At the end of the track, turn right (into Great Quarry) and descend along the pavement on the far side to the main road.
  47. 46 : km 5.98 - alt. 34 m - Cross the main road. Take care; this is a busy road with no central refuge.
  48. 47 : km 6.01 - alt. 34 m - Once across the road, turn right and then immediately left over the river footbridge.
  49. 48 : km 6.04 - alt. 31 m - As you come off the footbridge turn to your left and follow the path by the river with the rowing club to your left on the opposite bank.
  50. 49 : km 6.34 - alt. 33 m - Cross the weir and continue along the towpath. After about 250 yards look out for steps leading up and away from the river on your right.
  51. 50 : km 6.41 - alt. 42 m - Climb the steps and then turn right into a quiet, residential road (Flower Walk).
  52. 51 : km 6.69 - alt. 39 m - At the end of Flower Walk bear slightly right along Bury Fields.
  53. 52 : km 6.78 - alt. 36 m - Turn right down Porridge Pot Alley.
  54. 53 : km 6.88 - alt. 31 m - At the bottom of the alley turn left along Millmead. If you are looking for refreshment, there are several pubs here and a cafe in the Church on the left. There are seats by the river.
  55. 54 : km 7.15 - alt. 31 m - At the town bridge you can cross the river to return to the town centre or continue along the riverside to follow the route back to the railway station.
  56. 55 : km 7.3 - alt. 30 m - To return to the station, pass under the busy road bridge and then bear away from the river up the steps to your left.
  57. 56 : km 7.38 - alt. 36 m - At the top of the steps you will find the entrance to the pedestrian underpass which will take you back to the station.
  58. S/E : km 7.6 - alt. 37 m
