Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 181 m
  2. 1 : km 0.08 - alt. 182 m - From the pub car park take the path down to the Wayoh Reservoir
  3. 2 : km 0.24 - alt. 179 m - Turn left at the bottom to cross the dam with the Wayoh on your right and the waterworks beneath you.
  4. 3 : km 0.59 - alt. 177 m - Once you've crossed the dam turn sharp right to follow the path along the side of the Wayoh.
  5. 4 : km 1.53 - alt. 177 m - Follow the path with the Wayoh to your right hand side. Ignore the path to your left (to Entwistle) and continue along the path along a footbridge with a great view of Armsgrove Viaduct to your left. Trains pass over this on the Blackburn-Bolton line every half an hour or so,
  6. 5 : km 2.16 - alt. 179 m - Follow the path around the Wayoh eventually emerging via a gate onto a road across the reservoir (Hob Lane).
  7. 6 : km 2.17 - alt. 179 m - Cross straight over Hob Lane to pick the footpath up on the opposite side of the road. Here the path becomes more wooded and a little bit further away from the Wayoh itself which becomes reedy in places.
  8. 7 : km 2.73 - alt. 178 m - Eventually you reach a crossroads of paths. There are routes up to the left and straight on alongside a culvert. Ignore these and turn right across a small footbridge to continue along the top end of the Wayoh.
  9. 8 : km 2.87 - alt. 175 m - Continue along the path until crossing a second footbridge where you will take the path to the right to begin the walk back to the Black Bull.
  10. 9 : km 3.34 - alt. 178 m - Continue along this path as it gently rises and falls its winding way back out onto Hob Lane. Cross straight across the road to regain the path alongside the Wayoh. This is a popular spot for feeding the ducks.
  11. 10 : km 3.92 - alt. 178 m - Continue along this path, with more superb vies of the viaduct (this time more distant). Eventually the path rises up to a field.
  12. 11 : km 4.59 - alt. 190 m - Keep along the bottom of the field following the path out at the far side and then descending back down to the dam by a set of crumbling steps. The spire of St Ann's Church in Chapeltown is prominent to your right.
  13. 12 : km 4.92 - alt. 181 m - On reaching the dam follow the path back up to the Black Bull for a well earned drink and a meal.
  14. S/E : km 4.92 - alt. 181 m
