Waypoints

  1. S/E : km 0 - alt. 30 m - Leave University at Pathfoot gate by first going through the Atrium building and across the footbridge, before passing the university accommodation office.
  2. 2 : km 1.31 - alt. 33 m - Take Kenilworth Road until you reach Mine Road.
  3. 3 : km 2.26 - alt. 41 m - Turn right going up Mine Road until you reach the path along the base of Mine Wood.
  4. 4 : km 2.53 - alt. 51 m - Go right along the path, pass Wolf’s Hole Quarry and onto Glen Road.
  5. 5 : km 3.34 - alt. 51 m - Keep right at two junctions so that you are on Pendreich Road with a building plot on the right. Take the footpath between it and a modern brick-built bungalow into Mine Wood.
  6. 6 : km 4.17 - alt. 104 m - Follow the track which heads diagonally uphill on a gentle incline. You come to the dry stane dyke at the bottom of the Golf Course, follow it, cross a dry burn and go through an opening in another dyke.
  7. 7 : km 4.45 - alt. 106 m - Take the path at 45 degrees uphill and follow track with the golf course appearing on the left. It then goes steeply downhill and then climbs again. There is a steep hillock with tree on the left but it is better (as this is used by bikers) to follow the track ahead and round to the left and then go uphill through a gully.
  8. 8 : km 4.78 - alt. 141 m - At the top there are stones which indicate the bikers’ route. Go forward with the golf course on your left and up or beside a flight of broken wooden steps. Go over to the tarmac path within the golf course which is the first viewpoint looking to Dunblane and Braes of Doune.
  9. 9 : km 4.95 - alt. 164 m - Rejoin the narrow track keeping close to the golf course wall, again there is a flight of broken wooden steps and follow the track until you reach the next viewpoint at the top of the Hill of Airthrey.
  10. 10 : km 5.2 - alt. 140 m - You can see the cairn which commemorates the centenary of the golf club and the Fairy Knowe where in 1868 a stone burial cist, containing human bones, was found and reinterred.
  11. 11 : km 5.32 - alt. 133 m - You can see the cairn which commemorates the centenary of the golf club and the Fairy Knowe where in 1868 a stone burial cist, containing human bones, was found and reinterred.
  12. S/E : km 7.2 - alt. 30 m
